CoolBreeze's 2 Things I Didn't Like Tonight Plus 1

Post by Coolbreeze44 »

Charles Dickens once wrote about a "Tale of Two Cities". If he was covering the Wolves, tonight he'd have written about a tale of 2 halves. We dug ourselves way to big of a hole in the first, but showed something by making a game of it in the 2nd. But the bottom line is we just aren't good enough to win these games, and I don't care for moral victories anymore. I firmly believe this team is going to get over the hump eventually. I predicted 12 wins in the first half of the season, and 19 during the 2nd half. I still like that prediction. But for now we are forced to be patient. Here is the "Charles Dickens" version of the 2 + 1:

1) My biggest concern right now is whether we have the coaching staff to insure the development of our young players. I actually lost sleep over this last night. Seriously, it was in my dreams and I couldn't move past it. Someone made a good point about our assistants, none of them seem to really specialize in anything. Remember when we had Sikma? He was great with our big men. We need a Sikma for every level of the roster. At a minimum, I want to see these young guys getting the best possible coaching at this point in their career. I'm not sure they are.

2) 4-21 from behind the arc tonight. We've talked about this ad nauseum, but this has to change and needs to change quickly. It's not that our guys can't shoot it. It's more about the offense not being set up to get open looks. All we have to do is look across the court to see how it's done. Just about every opponent we play gets open looks routinely. Personally I'd put Wiggins down on the block, KAT in the high post, and have Zach and whoever else spot up behind the arc. That way we can play high-low, and inside out. The ball can swing to the open man when Wig, and Towns get taken away. Not rocket science.

Plus 1 - KAT was a hero tonight. He went into Zinger's back yard and left little doubt. I wonder what kind of numbers he's going to put up once they actually start to feature him. Kind of scary actually. Scary good. Anyway, I really enjoyed watching Towns tonight. In every game we see glimpses of the coming renaissance. Like I said above, patience.

And that's Cool's 2 things I didn't like tonight Plus 1.

I'd give Rubio the +1... because he was the one guy who brought it in BOTH halves. Tonight, we saw "fun" Rubio, the guy worthy of our glowing, unconditional praise. He was all over the place. You can live with bad shooting (30%) when he plays like that.

Cool to watch him tonight. Impressive.

The Knicks blitzed the Wolves during one big run (30 - 10?) and that was the difference. But ((moral victory alert!!)) it was good that the Wolves battled back in the 2nd half, down 20, on the second night of a back-to-back.

The Towns / Dieng / Wiggins / Lavine / Rubio has shown promise in the past. It showed promise tonight. OBVIOUSLY... it should be developed more moving forward.
