Two coaches fired in one move?

Post by AbeVigodaLive »

Word is that Dave Joerger's firing is imminent.

[Note: I know Mitchell is finishing the season barring a player's revolt. But does this possible move from Memphis set the wheels in motion in MN for a move down the line?]

I like Joerger. His teams didn't shoot 3s either. But he really does seem to have a defensive system.

Merry Christmas!

I don't think the system was his. I think he inherited it and he was more an wide open offensive system that his team just was not built to play. (might be wrong, but I remember reading that somewhere)

To be fair, when you have a team built around Gasol, Randolph, Conley and have to find time for guys like Tony Allen... yeah, you're kind of forced to play a certain style of ball.

But I dunno... I know very little about Joerger.

That is impressive he continued what worked. If he is more wide open he would be a good fit here. Flip liked him and if they really wanted him Glen and Milt would know that and I could see them making the move and Mitchell staying on as an assistant through the end of the year.

I don't see any moves during the season. Maybe I'm wrong though.

I think it would be a pretty big distraction and stunt the development of the kids (despite what we might think about Mitchell as a coach).

Joeger would either take the year off or go the Malone route and be a consultant for the rest of the year. It's rare to have a Karl situation where a new guy takes over during a season and stays especially if he got fired in the same year. Our problem is gonna be the coaching openings we'll have to compete with. Houston and LA likely are on the market and while LA isn't as big of a catch from a personnel standpoint they are still LA and can offer gobs of money to live out there.

Agreed. POBO needs to get settled first, then coach.

I would love to have joerger as our next coach. I dont see us changing coach during the season but I would love to have joerger on board next season. He is a fine coach who can coach both offense and defense.

The current memphis team has peak already in my view. You can only go so far with a gasol/randolph/conley core. With their personnel, they are going to be a playoff team with no real shot at a championship. They need to shake things up.

Joerger on the wolves would be a good match.
