Ryan Anderson?

Sounds like the Pelicans are looking to trade Ryan Anderson.

I have been wondering the last few weeks if the Wolves shouldn't be going after a guy like Ryan Anderson. Now I cant speak to Anderson's defense, but his size and ability to hit the 3 might be a good compliment to Wiggins. Seems like Anderson could play the 3 and the 4. I am guessing he would cost us Shabazz and/or Gorgui and/or Martin.

Thoughts?

I've always liked Anderson and yeah he fits here (where wouldn't he fit?) but where would he play? Guys I would trade for him as an expediting deal include Martin and Rudez. I doubt the Pels have interest in moving Anderson for Martin. Moving him for Morris makes sense. You get a young talented player on a pretty reasonable contract locked in for a few years even with problems for a guy that might leave after thisbyear and is a bench guy now sounds like a decent move although Morris seems like a real problem to me.

I think NB can be a better/more valuable piece than Anderson. Once Pek is back I think that pushes Dieng to the 4 more and I think our frontcourt ends up being set moving forward this year and if Pek can stay on the court for a couple more years.

Yeah if Dieng can play defense on more PFs like he did last night against Blake (wishful thinking but he was impressive last night) we may have something. Also Payne hasn't looked too bad either and has some value as a 3 point threat. He could be a nice bench option going forward.

Both Towns and Dieng can play the PF position, depending on matchups. They played really well together last night and I see them as our primary PF/C combination down the road. Bjelica is just starting to tap into his potential as he adjusts to the NBA game. My only concern with him initially at the PF position was his rebounding and defense. But I've seen enough to know he's an excellent rebounder and very solid defender. He's a lot stronger than I expected and he's incredibly long. Payne, not one of my favorites, has shown flashes and he definitely has talent. Our rotation is already too deep and that's before Pek's expected return.

So I wouldn't give up any assets for Anderson. We just need to focus on developing the young guys we have. Ultimately that will mean a shorter rotation along with less KG and Prince.

Man, if available I go after Ryan hard. He has been a fairly versatile player in his career. The fact that he is in the last year of his contract concerns me, but I still explore. I understand many folks interest in trying to develop all of our assets, but I am more inclined to get a sure thing. Several mention NB in this thread....the reality is that we are hoping and praying (at least I am) that NB can EVENTUALLY become a poor mans Anderson. They are exactly the same age, and while NB has performed well, he is not the player that Anderson is.

That being said, I don't look to trade NB for Anderson. We have a $5M trade exception. I would deal Shabazz. Tyus. Maybe a couple other parts. If NO wants some cap relief (which they need), then we may be a decent partner. If they want even player assets, then we may not be a great partner. Although Morris has shown nothing other than he is Charmin soft and has a piss-poor attitude. With the troubles NO has shown, he seems a horrible fit. Dieng is probably a pretty good fit next to Unibrow. I would explore this deal as well. I like Dieng, but feel he is replaceable.

Hicks -- I like Anderson too and I see your point. But aside from his very solid 3-point shooting (37%), he's a mediocre rebounder for his position (career 5.6 per game) and a low percentage shooter overall (43%) for a PF. And he's not a shot-blocker or a particularly good defender. He's basically a stretch 4 perimeter scorer. He'd be fine for us as a stretch 4 coming off the bench, but we have Belly for that role locked up in a favorable contract. Anderson would be a FA coming off a salary already substantially higher than Belly's.

If we're going to shop for a PF, we should find someone to help us on the boards and/or help us with our interior defense. One thing I've noticed this season is that we need more rebounding help. Towns is very good, but Wiggins is a poor rebounder at his position. A strong, physical rebounding presence at the PF position would be a nice addition to our team. Otherwise, I'm content with what we have at this point. Anderson is a good player but he doesn't bring enough of what we need to justify giving up any significant assets to get him.

I wouldn't trade Dieng for one year of Ryan Anderson, bad back and all. I like Ryan but we could sign him in free agency next year.

There is a report that teams have inquired about Shabazz in a trade. Interesting that it comes after the best game of the year for him. Houston has some players I like. KJ McDaniels, Terrence Jones and Motiejunas. I'd love to get McDaniels and either Jones or Motiejunas for KMart and Bazz. They'd probably rather dump Lawson though.

I don't get the point of this at all. Pass. We are a 9-10 seed, getting Anderson does nothing to change that. Plus anything that we would offer that would rival Morris (like Bazz) would be a horrible idea.
