Jones to the D League
Wolves just announced that Jones will be joining the Idaho Stampede. Good move, as he is behind 3 other PGs on the Wolves' roster and not able to get any minutes. I'm guessing they wanted him to be around for the couple days of practice they just completed, and now want him to get some real court time. Unfortunately, Idaho's best player is their PG Brandon Fields, but hopefully Tyus will be able to get some meaningful minutes.

If they don't think they will get him any minutes with the Wolves then yeah might as well get him any kind of minutes with a d-league squad. I have faith in his talent I think he will play minutes while there.

I don't get why this took so long. They were never going to move Zach to the 2 and bench Miller to give Tyus playing time. He should have been sent down once they decided to keep Zach at PG and go for wins over development. Tyus just needs minutes to get adjusted to the speed of the game and the D-league is a good transition league for the athleticism gap between college and the pros. It's not like Sam has some great offensive system that Tyus needs to be practicing in to be ready to step into if he ever plays. Get him minutes, evaluate where the team is at the all-star break (if he doesn't pull a Bazz and play his way out right away) and go from there. The second we're realistically out of the playoff race, he should be called up to backup Ricky.

Re: Jones to the D League
Here's my take on the timing. While Ricky was out, Sam wanted the luxury of having a third PG around in case either Zach or Andre got hurt or in foul trouble. After Ricky came back, the Wolves had an open stretch where they could practice three days in a row, and they thought Tyus would get more out of those practices with the big club than playing in Idaho. Who knows how much playing time he will get in Idaho, since the Wolves have no control over the situation...the Jazz own the franchise, and they won't be interested in helping the development of a Western rival's player. In addition, Idaho's PG Brandon Fields is their best player (he went 19-11-5 in 37 minutes yesterday), so it would be unusual to immediately insert a new guy in the starting lineup. Next game is Wednesday, so we'll have to see how much he plays.

Even if he gets 15-20 MPG as a backup, that would be great. He definitely needs to get some reps.

There was a write up about this in today's Strib. According to the article, they are going to play Tyus a lot and the intent is for the Wolves to give him six or seven games which will be scouted heavily by the Wolves. Definitely time to make this move. I hope he shows something:

Thanks for posting Carlos. It also answers the reason why we didn't send him to the D-League sooner. When you don't have your own D-League team, you are totally dependent on others to find the right situation. This should be good for Tyus. It will be interesting to track his progress over the next couple of weeks.
