Take Your Pick!

Post by TheFuture »

This poll is set up in two parts. Please only vote once in Section A, and once in Section B!
There was a thread recently with an article about players with the best young cores when looking at the next 3 years. I hand-picked the Jazz, Magic, Bucks, and our Wolves to be the cores in question here. Let's see where everyone stands!

Section A - First 4 poll answers (Pick 1)
Consists of the 2 best players/prospects on their current team, select which pair you think has the best players/potential players. Feel free to share your reasoning!

Section B - Answers 5-8 (Pick 1)
Consists of the rest of the rosters of these 4 teams. The other 3 starters, and bench players. Again, please share your reasoning!

So, this month is slow. I've been drinking. I created a pointless poll.

I am also a Homer. I look at these players/prospects, and I vote for Wiggins/Towns. I then look at these teams, and desperately want MCW/Middleton/Monroe to be on the starting 5 with Wiggins and Towns! Then I see Payton/Gordon/Harris and want the same thing. Next, I look at what the bench would be on any teams other than what I would have with Wiggins/Towns and our already constructed team. I select the Wolves. Bathe me in your best "you biased homer statements". I deserve them. I appreciate them.

I'm bullish on the Wolves in both sections and here's why: It's a superstar driven league. I believe the only sure fire superstar on the entire poll is Wiggins. And the guy with the best chance to join him is Towns. All the teams have star players for sure, but no one else seems to have the very elite possibilities the Wolves do.

I went Wolves both times but to be honest some of that is I haven't see some of the other young players on other teams play much. I considered Parker greek freak for the first one and easily eliminated the Bucks in the second one because Mayo was listed. Lol Orlando was the one I was most intruiged by in the second one because they have some nice players and Hezonja could actually be a star. It's fun seeing some of these young teams now and like I've said numerous times I am sort of excited for the Bucks.

Man, I don't agree that Wiggins is "it" from a superstar perspective. I took the duo of Gobert/Favors as a start. The larger list I was less sure of, but I went Milwaukee. Of all the players on that duo list, if I was starting a team from scratch, it would be Gobert for me. That Utah team was a completely different animal after Gobert began playing more minutes in the back half of the season. Due to his age, he is probably closer to a finished product than the other players on the list, but regardless, no one can deny his ACTUAL impact last season. Now, he wasn't the only reason for them winning more games, but when he moved into the starter type minutes, the team then went 27-23, and previously were 11-21. And from everything I saw, it was primarily driven by the successes of Gobert. He is everything I hope Towns can become....an efficient and competent scorer, as well as a completely dominant paint protecting big man.

I am fine with folks selecting Wiggins as well, but he was not the 2 way stud I expected coming out of college. I was disappointed in his defense, as well as many aspects of his game where he clearly doesn't take advantage of his physical gifts. But he is elite at getting to the line, and that will go a long ways towards enabling him to become elite at the offensive end of the floor.

Out of all things in the game i wouId like to see improvement on from wiggins i would put defense at the bottom. 3pt shooting and assertiveness on offense are at the top.

He was 19 guarding the oppositions best wing player every night. I thought he showed great poise, a veterans mentality on defense. He rarely bites on fakes, and doesn't take risks like a brewer that puts him and his team in a bad position. Because of this you don't see big block and steal numbers, but outside of that he is a great defender.

What did you see that I didn't?

Here is how I would characterize Wiggins: Without regard to context, he was an average defender at best and slightly below average offensively due to mediocre efficiency.

However, once you put into context his age, minutes played, and the fact his comrades were all in the M.A.S.H. unit, he had a stellar rookie year. His upside is tremendous, but I still feel he will end up closer to Paul George than Lebron James or Michael Jordan.

Rubioooooo, he sometimes got bullied by stronger wings and occasionally fell asleep at the wheel and got beat on back-cuts and in transition. He was not one of the NBA's better wing defenders, that's for sure. HOWEVER, I do agree he can definitely become one of the better wing defenders based on the flashes we saw last season. And he was certainly one of the better defenders on our team last season (which isn't saying much considering how historically bad we were).

I agree with Hicks that, with the benefit of hindsight, I would be mighty tempted to make Gobert one of the two guys I'd pick to start a team of the bunch listed here. He was a total game-changer for Utah last season.

(Wiggins or Giannis might be the other).

Wiggins and Town is definitely the best pairing potential wise. They have all the tools and what's even more important - great attitudes and no egos, meaning they should be able to co-exist.

Just imagine if we had drafted the Greek Freak instead of Bazz..... I like Bazz, but Antetokounmpo is going to be a beast.
