Lame thread - Wolves vs Cavs GDT

Post by 60WinTim »

Have no idea why I created this, but the Wolves vs Cavs game is being played on NBATV right now.

The box score shows that our starters played well together, but the bench was pretty sucko.

First quarter is done. Towns is struggling with fouls. Payne continues to do work. I am tempted to turn the sound down...

Payne sure has been a revelation! It will be huge if carries his aggressive play into the season!

Yup!

Nice to see Tyus looking more comfortable and being more productive.

Watched this game on NBA Broadband last night....Payne was very aggressive with his rebounding, but he also looked pretty bad with his offense. He did the thing J-Pete always rails on, which is grabbing the offensive rebound and then taking a contested tough shot inside instead of just kicking the ball back out to set things up.

I think Payne could carve out a niche for himself if he focuses on rebounding, defense, and hustle. I also think his shot isn't half bad when he's set and open.

I apologize for pointing out the game is on. It's not worth wasting part of your Saturday on!

The problem with Payne shooting right now is that he falls in love with thinking he's a key offensive cog when he gets in that mode, and the team suffers when that happens. If Payne could work on defense, rebounding and ONLY spot up shooting and the like then there'd be a chance. Until he figures that out, I won't hold my breath.

Totally agree. He definitely rebounded the ball well in Vegas and he also hustled his butt off. But defensively he wasn't always disciplined and offensively he was all over the map and not very productive.

I think Summer League proves we have some coaching and GM issues. I would hope we are here to win some games. Not sure how a team like the Spurs can be better then us even in this setting.

Bleed, I had some of the same concerns after the Bulls game, but then I realized we just didn't assemble a team that could shoot very well. It was laughable watching the Wolves' summer league team shoot pre-game and at halftime. Zach, Tyus and Heslip consistently made their shots, and Brown and Towns weren't too bad, but the other guys on the roster were terrible shooters. With Zach hurt, Tyus gone, and Heslip just not athletic enough to get open looks in this type of environment, we simply weren't going to shoot well enough to win many games. And most of the other teams seemed to have several guys who could shoot. We beat the Lakers because Zach was lights out from the outside, but after he dropped out, we were outmatched. When I realized that, I lost interest in winning and only focused on the performance of the guys who are going to stick around (Towns, Payne, Tyus and maybe Brown).

I was gonna watch this game but apparently they didn't stream this one on my service. Oh well.

The comments posters in this thread on Payne are almost exactly what Flip was saying on Funkadelic Thursday.

On us sucking in SL Flip sounded in funkadelic like he didn't take SL too serious and I get where he is coming from. Let these guys go out and play and not get too carried away. Sure maybe you should try and win the tourney but it is pretty meaningless and that may lock you in too doing things that might not be the best. I know last year they played a lot of the other guys The last couple game to give them a chance to show what they had. It sounds like we got out of SL without any significant injuries so I'll agree with Flip it was a success! Lol
