Barea being shopped.
Barea being shopped.
As per hoopshype. No surprise really!
Being an expiring with championship experience he could hold some decent value.

What a schocker!
Seriously though I could see the bucks as a possible destination for him. Kidd is the coach now and he is friends with jj and they started together in their championship run in dallas. Kidd might know how to use jj properly.
JJ + bud/mbam for ersan illyasova

Good point about the Bucks it was just last summer that JJ said he would like to play for Kidd. The Bucks look to be under the cap maybe they would even take JJ in exchange for a conditional 2nd rounder if the Wolves had some other signing lined up. I think JJ has some value around the league it only takes 1 team that wants him that has a way to aquire him.

I wonder if Miami would have any interest in him.

Negative. They already have Cole and Napier off the bench. They're good on PG depth, they just need a starter. Barea is not that.

I just don't see a team that would want Barea. I think we stick him at SG. I wonder how Flip would use him. I wonder how Flip balances this roster. We really need a backup PG and PF. I think it only gets worse after we trade Love.

I don't even care what we get back, just get rid of him. He was probably one of our biggest liabilities last season.
Re: Barea being shopped.
JJ was a key to the Mav's championship several years ago. He's tough, highly competitive and still in his prime. On the right team, he can add a lot of value. And he has a very reasonable contract at around $4.5 million that's set to expire at the end of this season. Considering all these factors and not focusing excessively on how Barea played last season, it's clear that Barea should have decent trade value. So Flip shouldn't just give him away.

On the right team... This team is not that one. He's a spark plug instead of a distributor, and we need a distributor. Very reasonable contract? $4.5M is, and always has been, too much for Barea. Kahn got killed with that deal.
If Flip can even move him I'll be excited. I'm tired of the lil hobbit.
Re: Barea being shopped.
Cam -- I love the hobbit reference. :) That's why I said, "the right team." I agree he's a poor fit for our team. I disagree with you on JJ's contract. $4.5 million for what Barea can do for the right team is reasonable when you also consider that his contract is expiring the end of this season. That's the key. Kevin Martin's contract would have been reasonable if for only one or two years. It was the 4-year length that made it a bad deal and that caused the Warriors to refuse Martin as part of the reported Love deal. I too want Flip to move Barea and I think he will. But I do think he has some trade value -- probably better value than any Flip's other signings last summer. That's not high praise for JJ's trade value. Instead it speaks more to the low value of Martin, Budinger and Brewer.
