Ramifications of the draft on Love deals

Post by Phenom »

I am curious to see what happens with the interest in Harrison Barnes. As the roster stands, there could be a big squeeze for wing minutes. Seems like now the teams will be able to settle on the 2015 1st instead. Klay/Lee/1st for Love/Martin

Rubio/Barea/Shved
Klay/LaVine/GRIII
Brew/Shabazz/Bud
Lee/Turiaf/Luc
Pek/Dieng

Is drafting LaVine enough to have Flip turn away from GS? Does this give Flip more reason to keep Love? I wonder what Flip's plan would be with a roster like that. I wonder how Flip views Shabazz vs GRIII. Could be room for a Bazz and Barea trade for a PF or PG.

I can say with absolute certainty that Flip will not trade Shabazz. I think A deal with Golden State will happen -- probably Love and Martin for Lee, Klay and Barnes or Green. We may end up including Glen Robinson.

I think the Wolves are building their team and have no intention of trading Love which is exactly what they should be doing. They drafted the type of guys they should to build around Rubi and Love. LaVine was a guy some Wolves fans were buzzing about months ago. Some of us were excited about Glenn Robinson too. Its hard to go back, but imagine we didn't have this storm about Love. This would be the draft we would have wanted 2 talented wings.

Im glad we didnt trade love on draft night. The proposed warriors trade will still be on the table moving florward. This also eliminates tbe celtics, suns and bulls trade as they are built around picks and its a relief we didnt settle on those. Althouh boston had a good draft night.

I can actually see us in a better position with better options now. With lebron and melo both hitting free agency and teams like houston in play, this gives us a shot at being involved with those deals and possibly getting harden out of it. The cavs remain a small possibility depending on lebron. The warriors deal will still be there and we dont have to hear about 16 &19 & gibson type of deals now.

I have zero interest in Harrison Barnes after drafting GRIII. He's cheaper, younger and call me crazy, but has more potential. Golden State can shove their trade offer up their ass. Keep Klay if he's so damn good.

I'm set on waiting it out. Come July (several days away), let's see what LeBron wants to do. Let's see what the Heat do. If they aren't able to make their moves (Lowry, Melo), LeBron could very well leak hints to CLE that he'll sign if they get Love. Call me crazy again, but Miami drafting Napier doesn't solidify shit in terms of LeBron staying in South Beach. The guy has a strong attachment to his hometown that shouldn't be ignored. He's also a smart guy. If he wins a ring for the Cavs, he's going down as the hero he was supposed to be. If Bron makes that clear to CLE, Wiggins is ours. That by itself is better than anything Golden State has offered.

Another reason to wait for LeBron and Melo to sign is to gain back the interest in teams that don't acquire them. We can also make sure that LeBron doesn't even think about going to Golden State if Love isn't there already. Let's be strategic with that one. If Houston doesn't get one of Melo/Bron, they'll be hungry for another star as would Chicago (I believe Melo does sign with the Bulls).

So no, I still say fuck the Warriors. Wait for other dominos to fall. And if the offers still suck, hold on to Love and convince him there's a winner here in Minnesota. Flip's a better coach than we and the national media give him credit for, I believe. Keeping Love is definitely still on the table.

Completely agree with that whole post Cam. And just to reiterate my favorite part Golden St. can shove their trade pieces up their ass and have fun getting bounced in the second round with Klay "Max Contract" Thompson

I pretty much agree Cam. I think there's still a chance he stays and if they don't trade him well before camp starts that will tell me Flip has reason to believe Love isn't dead set against staying. Love always emphasizes winning and that he loves the area & fans here. Maybe flip can make a move or 2 in July to improve the team even more.

The keys to him staying are, what moves Flip makes this summer, how Rubio, Shabazz, & Dieng improve and if the team can FINALLY stay pretty healthy.

Here's the scary part about keeping Love. They could very well end up doing better and still miss the playoffs. The west somehow just got a lot better. The Nuggets look really good, NO got Asik and will be healthier with another year on Davis's belt. Mavs just brought back the piece that won them the title. Nobody in the playoffs got any worse.

Only team you can feel comfortable in saying the Wolves are clearly better then are the Jazz and Lakers

Nuggets still have an unproven coach and a starless roster, though Lawson is underrated. With the roster we have right now, we're still better than them without a doubt, in my mind. Pelicans added a good piece in Asik, but I still have questions about their bench and Gordon/Evans/Holiday fit. Mavs didn't get better by losing Calderon and Dalembert and adding Chandler. They did that move to try and attract Carmelo. If it works and Melo signs there, then sure, they get a hell of a lot better. As of right now, though, I can't see how they're better at all.

I also don't believe the Suns can repeat the success they had last year. Other than Dragic Bledsoe and maybe Green, I still don't see significant talent. I'm pretty sure they started to fade post-All Star break anyway.

Of course, it all depends on what our roster looks like by season start. We need an upgrade at backup point guard and power forward.
