DRAFT DAY THREAD

Post by bleedspeed »

The most exciting day of the year for Wolves fans.

Who will we take at #13?

Will we trade Kevin Love?

Are we in for any suprises?

We have discussed this last year, but Flip is a "box" guy. He puts the draftees into various boxes. He has a box for "future hall-of-famers", "all-stars", "starters", "rotation guys" and I don't know what else. He also has a "shit box" -- guys he wouldn't draft no matter what.

Last year he said there was nobody in his "hall-of-famer" box. He said there are a few potential all-stars in this draft, so I assume he has those guys in his "all-stars" box. He also said there are a lot of guys in the 10-16 range that are potential starters, so those guys must be in his "starters" box.

I am guessing last year Shabazz, McCollum and a number of other players were in his "rotation guys" box. At #9 he had enough guys left in the rotation box that he could trade down and still have rotation guys left in the box later on. And Shabazz was the best fit for this team left in that box when he finally made his first pick.

Anyway, the two biggest needs on this team are a backup PG and backup PF, although upgrading any position could be on the table, with the exception of C where we are three deep with reasonable players.

Payne or Napier are in my box...

Who's in your box? ;)

Stien is reporting that the Raptors are trying to strike a deal with Memphis in which they would receive Prince and the #22 pick for Salmons and the #37. If Uriji can pull this off my respect for him will reach an all-time high. He would dump a guy he was going to cut, take on an expiring, and get a decent draft pick in a uber deep draft.

We're better off targeting Wilby as our backup PG in round 2 Tim. I'd take either Staus or Harris at 13.

With this in mind if the Wolves reach 13 with several players left in Flip's box do you foresee him trying to trade back again? Suppose Chicago and Phoenix would be the only possibilities or perhaps they gain a pick next season from another team to hedge against the pick they may owe Phoenix. I know it makes more sense in the NFL but maybe Flip would rather roll the dice a couple of times later than once in the middle.

If Flip is in that situation, I would be ok with doing something like 13 and a 2nd for 16 and 19.

Excitement is one word. Gut-wrenching fear is also there for me.

I would trade back to get 16 and 19. Take Hood and Kyle Anderson.

Ricky/JJ
Martin/Hood
Brewer/Bazz/Bud
Love/Anderson
Pek/Dieng

I think you make Anderson the primary playmaker of the second unit as guys like JJ, Hood and Bud/Bazz will put shooters around him. Dieng can cover up defensively for Anderson. Hood is a prototypical wing with the size and athleticsm to guard either the 2 or 3 and he is a good shooter while having the handle to get to the basket. That would be my ideal draft at this point if Gary Harris doesn't make it to 13.
