After a long negotiation Nowell signs to a 4 year deal. Nowell got 1.4 mil the 1st year (higher than normal) but the wolves got the 3 years after that as team options (rosas wins)
Apparently Rosas, wouldn't budge on those last 3 years being team options. That's why his 1st year is a little higher
Nowell finally signs.

Re: Nowell finally signs.
Minor victory for Rosas that could pay off significantly if Nowell is a legit player.
Re: Nowell finally signs.
Slowly but surely, Rosas is starting to distinguish himself from his predecessors as someone who knows what he's doing - a leader who formulates a plan with contingencies and then skillfully implements the plan patiently and with purpose. Declining to sign Tyus Jones combined with forgoing other opportunities to sign slightly higher priced free agents has cumulatively created financial flexibility to do this deal with Nowell and have room to spare for other potential moves.
Re: Nowell finally signs.
I'm surprised Nowell lasted until the Wolves pick in the second round. As a sophomore he shot 50% from the field on a reasonably hefty 12 attempts and 44% from behind the arc on a modest 3.2 attempts. That's really impressive. Although he's not particularly long, he pulled down an impressive 5.3 rebounds a game while getting 1.5 steals. He tested out as an excellent athlete with a 38.5 vertical, a 10.76 agility score and 3.13 sprint.
Those numbers in combination suggest 1st round talent. Yet he lasted well into the second round. I suspect that scouts labeled him a tweeter based on his PG length - overhead reach of 8'2 - coupled with his apparent lack of true PG skills. But he has a decent 6'7.25 wingspan. Moreover, in today's NBA, I think the tweener label is misplaced. I think the Wolves got a steal in Nowell and a lot of teams will regret passing on him. I still recall Paul Millsap falling well down in the 2nd round when I thought he was a first round talent based on his college stats, which included 12 rebounds per game. I think he was downgraded because or his conference. But he ended up making a lot of teams regret passing on him. I'll out on a limb and predict that Nowell will become our guard version of Millsap.

Lip to add to what you are saying about Nowell physically...seeing (via videos) Nowell at various stuff with the team including when guys went to Vikings practice he looks like a pretty big 6'4" dude. He looks like a legit SG not some combo guard guy. He also doesn't look like a skinny guard either. From what I've seen of him he has enough handle to bring the ball up and do some things with it...not get the ball stolen from him etc. He doesn't look explosive with the ball but you also wonder if he has a bit more but he just uses his skill and smooth game plus he actually was in college *gasp* a good midrange shooter. Keep in mind he just turned 20 he could physically mature some yet. I'm pretty excited about this guy too Lip!
He is sort of a forgotten guy because he didn't play in SL and likely isn't the answer to the PG depth question but he seems to be a nice talent and I think the Wolves and Nowell won with this deal. Assuming he gets reasonable raises he is gonna make over 7.5 million even if he sticks around for the 4 years on the cheap deal and then...he will be 24 and if good will be plenty young enough to cash in. If the Wolves could hit on a legit rotation player with one of these young cheap guys it would really help. Also they are likely nice assets for a possible deal especially if they show some actual promise in the coming months.

Good points. As you said, he looks physically strong with some width and solid weight (not fat). Watching highlight videos, he looks like a true scoring SG. But even though he only averaged about 3 assists per game, I saw some PG skills in his game. I'd say from the little I've seen he's a very good ballhandler with some pretty good court vision. So I wouldn't rule out the possibility of him eventually becoming a PG. He reminds me a bit of Chauncey Billups.
I think I'll start another thread to discuss all the young players Rosas has signed on team-friendly contracts. As you said, it would be nice to hit on one of them as a rotation guy. Maybe we could hit on a couple and perhaps one of them could become a solid starter or even better. I think Nowell and Vonleh have high ceilings and either one could become a special player. I just like that we finally have a lot of them with no significant financial risk to the organization.

Re: Nowell finally signs.
His size and defense is probably what knocks him down. Just from of the reports i read about him.
He wanted to play pg at uw, but was more interested in scoring than passing.
He has good pg size, but maybe average at sg?
Uw played a syracuse type zone, but he was apparently one of the primary culprits of the zone breaking down.
But as long as he can shoot, he'll get minutes on this team. And if culver or wiggs play some point forward, nowell also makes sense as the pg.
