Presser for new guys
Presser for new guys
I am watching the introductory presser for Jarrett, Nowell and Naz. I am sure they will have it available at timberwolves.com later today.
Apparently Naz had such a good summer league that we signed him to a multi-year deal today! I assume that means we are back to having 2 two-way contracts available again...

Re: Presser for new guys
I assume this means Nowell is signed, too...
#23 Culver
#4 Nowell
#11 Reid
Doesn't this fill up our roster? Although, I imagine we will see some additional moves to balance some things out.

Naz got 4 years totaling 6.1 million
I think they are banking on him developing - if he does - wow that is a great contract - of which only the 1st year is guaranteed

Re: Presser for new guys
I would have been fine with him staying on a 2-way deal but getting him locked in for 4 years is pretty good if the guy can develop. It's basically like getting a 1st round pick for 2nd round money and he is talented.
It will be interesting to see what they do with their 2-way deals and who they move on from on the roster. Wallace has a non-guaranteed deal but they have 2 PGs (Teague and Napier) if they let him go. I suppose Nowell is a guy you could roll out there as a PG but it wouldn't be ideal. At this point I would guess Wallace and Graham are battling for that last spot along with any other guys that could surprise that will be in camp.

Yeah, I grinned when I saw the details. Not only did Rosas steal what some, including myself, thought to be a borderline first-round talent, but he locked him into a heavily favorable contract. That's how good management operates. I'm very much liking how Rosas handles business in the early stages of his tenure in Minnesota.

Absolutely right, Cam. Rosas didn't hit on his one signature effort to sign D. Russell. But I really like his smaller moves. I'm starting to get the sense that we actually have a true pro running our front office for the first time in franchise history.
Re: Presser for new guys
There has been a lot of talk about upside and young players for this roster heading into the draft. It's worth noting the Wolves have now added 3 players 20 or younger to the roster via the draft/rookie process. These guys aren't finished products but they were all fairly productive players that played for NCAA tourney teams that advanced. Nowell is sort of the forgotten man since he is a 2nd round guy that wasn't able to play in SL. The Wolves also added 4 other players to the roster 25 or younger via FA. This organization isn't afraid to bring in some young guys to what will be a pretty young roster. Jeff Teague is the old fart who turned 31 a few weeks ago.

Adding younger guys makes it easier for KAT to become the "veteran leader" he wants to be...

Maybe so. There were a lot of complaints last year about KAT not getting enough touches in the 4th quarter. Could it be as simple as him taking over down the stretch?
Re: Presser for new guys
I watched the presser and media availability for the other guys added this offseason. My takeaways were Vonleh didn't come off sounding shape even though the things he said were good. Bell came off sounding good thoughtful smart and confident. Napier feels like he has found his game in the league after saying he wasn't sure he was an NBA player before joining Portland. Rosas said he thought Graham can guard 3-5. I did read a few days ago on some forums that fans said he actually started a chunk of his games as basically a small ball 4 for the Nets last year. I haven't looked into it anymore than that. The narrative was EVERYONE in the organization has something to prove and hungry. I can relate to that...ok it's really pretty much the hungry part. :)
