I voted James Wiseman because I believe Gersson Rosas might have an eye for talent. Admittedly, there's some hope involved with my choice, but Rosas has identified some hidden gems with Jordan McLaughlin, Naz Reid, and even Malik Beasley to an extent. Trading up for Jarrett Culver doesn't look great right now, but Culver will wind up being a solid contributor in his own right. That's better than some other teams can say about their selections last year.

At the end of the day, I just can't imagine Rosas trading for Beasley, re-signing Beasley, and then drafting a player that will surely replace Beasley. Meanwhile, there's a massive opening in the frontcourt next to Karl-Anthony Towns as well as the possibility that Towns will be dealt in the near future.

Drafting Wiseman not only gives you a chance to improve in the present, but also an insurance plan should Towns demand a trade out of Minnesota. It also doesn't compromise the opportunity cost of someone like Beasley or Culver in the backcourt.

Ball, because I don't think he wants to give up that dream of adding a third star, so to hedge his bets, he wants to maintain this pick as an asset. Either Ball plays so well he becomes that third star or he's able to flip him to a team who will want him as the main return on a deal for a Booker or Simmons or Beal or whoever opens up.

Every mock draft I've seen (5 or so) has us taking Edwards.

Ball is a sketchy player/prospect as well as he doesn't defend and doesn't shoot well.

I watched a few social media posts with Wiseman's workouts in them. His handle does seem intriguing for a guy that big. Which then my mind went to a different place.

When the Wolves made their flurry of moves in season they ended up with a couple young "modern" bigs in Vanderbilt and Spellman. Spellman was and is CLEARLY the better shooter it's not even close. We've argued about which guy is better and even has more potential. The Wolves picked Vanderbilt and Rosas and Saunders said he was the type of guy that fit their program. It wasn't because he was good now or because of his ability to shoot the ball.

If they liked Vanderbilt...imagine how much they might like a guy like wiseman who is bigger and quite frankly has a better looking shot. I'd maybe give Vanderbilt a nod on the ball handling playmaking thing but even though it's not like Vanderbilt is some sort of ball handling wizard if Wiseman is anything close to what Vanderbilt is...you pick Wiseman because that would be a pretty unique skill set for a guy that's 7' tall Large wingspan etc and 19. Vanderbilt may also be more switchable but wiseman's size is a big deal. Of course Vanderbilt is basically a 2nd round guy they added Basically in a swap for KBD. Ironically a big SF like KBD is sort what this roster could use more of.

In other words I just laid out a path based on past actions of the Wolves actually being interested in a guy like Wiseman If he is actually skilled. Does Wiseman have that type of skills and will the Wolves believe in him being something more than a Center? Idk but it's possible.

Of course everyone the Warriors are working out are supposedly killing it and the Warriors are thinking about just picking a guy. That could be true or...It's a smokescreen.

It could also happen to the Wolves a guy ends up looking too good to pass up...or they could smoke screen too. It's worth considering these guys have been working on their game for months now. Some of them could have legitimately made a lot of progress.

Just watching the way Wiseman moves makes me convinced he's the guy. He is so fluid and agile for a 7-footer that I could easily see him eventually being able to put the ball on the deck a bit and hopefully learn how to defend the perimeter on switches (I realize this isn't a strength now for him).

In other words, he moves more like a modern-day 4 even though he has elite Center length. I can't believe the Wolves aren't quietly salivating at the prospect of taking him first. The more I see the way he moves and some of the flashes of skills he shows, the more obvious it is to me that he stands out from the rest of this class.

I think he will take Ball too. I think Cool's intuition is right on this one. Im not high on Ball but he could become a unique player. I want Edwards, I think his Body and athleticism make him the highest upside. I will cheer hard for Wiseman if that is the pick.

Q you are good at sniffing out BS so I'd like to hear more feedback. What have I been missing in terms of his special movement? I might be starting to see it some in some workout videos Via social media but aren't I supposed to not be swayed by that? :) I'm being serious I really want to know what you see. I'm sure it can be hard to describe but it hope you are willing.

Monster,

#1 - his quick jump abilities. He has a wicked quick jump which is unusual for someone his size. Reminds me a bit of a young DeAndre Jordan with how fast he can get up and dunk with minimal gather.

#2 - He has excellent straight-line speed and should be able to keep up with most 4's and certainly outrun most NBA 5's.

#3 - Has good footwork and body control around the basket.

He also knows how to get into a defensive stance on the perimeter. I do think he has a lot of work to do on that end of the floor still.
