Yesterday I thought about how Covington was coming back soon and got so excited to see him side by side with Okoge wreaking havoc!
Then I remembered Andrew Wiggins' (contract) would push one of them to the bench and now the tears won't stop falling no matter what I do

I get where you are coming from but I'll mention a couple things...
1. Remember that awesome time when Covington was a DPOY candidate and the Wolves were playing awesome defense? Wiggins was playing over 30 mins a night for that squad. I actually think Wiggins and Covington together...they actually might compliment each other to some extent on that end. I think what Okogie brings is more of a guy that's an aggressive point of attack guy. Covington is at his best when he gets to play team defense and helps someone else instead of being the guy taking on a top offensive player.
2. On a recent Dane Moore podcast they were talking about benching of Wiggins and Dane said they don't have to have him tart the game on the bench to send a message or whatever. He brought up how better players than Wiggins have not played in the 4th quarters...innthe playoffs like Derozen. He mentioned that Rose could be and option to close games over Wiggins. It reminded me of times where Thibs actually was playing Crawford minutes over Wiggins in the 4th quarter last year. If this team gets healthy Ryan could have multiple options to play over Wiggins. Rose Tyus Okogie Deng. One of the PGs could be playing over Teague also but there are options if this team is actually relatively healthy if Ryan wants to use them.

Once again it's not a Wiggins vs Okogie vs Cov, situation. They all play on the same team. Hopefully the wolves finally have the depth to be successful if Wiggins doesn't have it. When Wiggins has it he is arguably our best player because in today's NBA wings are generally more important than bigs. But Wiggins inconsistencies are the reason why he is such a let down. He is getting paid the big bucks so he should be ripped.
Hopefully with Okogie, Rose, Deng we actually have options when Wiggins is trash. Even how bad Wiggins is sometimes the wolves have still been better overall in terms of Net per 100 possessions in every one of Wiggins years when he is on the court compared to off.
It's a we thing not a VS thing

Wiggins and Covington together on the floor gives us two wings who can't handle the ball. That just won't work in today's NBA.

Reddick and Covington made it work last year.

Hmm. My tears came because RoCo is not ready to go. The Wolves are too far out of the playoffs to mount a run without him.
I suppose the Wolves could hold the fort without RoCo for a few games, but no RoCo 10 games from now spells doom.

Redick's inability to handle the ball at an above average level is replaced by his elite ability to move off-ball and create separation that way. He's somewhere in that group with Steph Curry, Kyle Korver, Klay Thompson, and Marco Belinelli -- guys that are fantastic at passing and moving effectively off that action.
Unfortunately, Wiggins is not skilled enough as a cutter/shooter to develop that into his game and he's not willing to expend that much energy in working for shots anyways.

I don't disagree, I am just disagreeing with the premise that you can't have 2 wings that can't handle the ball. Now having wings that can make everything easier but I don't think it is a must. Like if the Wolves had Kemba, the need for wings that can create are not as important.
Once again, I don't think it has to be a Wiggins vs Okogie vs Rose vs Deng vs Cov. I think they can all compliment each other.
Wiggins: When on arguably can be the best player on the court, Can take over a game like only KAT can on the Wolves. Solid Iso defender, weak team defender (IMO), average 3pt shooter, effort comes and goes, super inconsistent.
Okogie: Effort and Defense
Deng: Mr. Average, that is not a jab at Deng, he is just a professional that because he is not weak at an area he can be super successful. He is a great cutter though that helps Kat a ton.
Rose: Professional bucket getter.
Cov: The ultimate role player. 3 and D guy. All NBA defense.
Once again I feel like the 1st time in Wiggins time as a wolf we have options if Wiggins isn't bringing it that night. Wiggins is still the most talented player of that group but there are plenty of nights where he is the worst of that group. I understand Wiggins contract hampers what the Wolves can do moving forward so I understand trying to move on from him this offseason. But for this season, you have to see if you get good Wiggins every night and if he doesn't bring it we finally have options where we don't have to play him 35 minutes a night.

Re: I am in a state of deep mourning and can't shake it
In the absence of some unforeseen stroke of luck in the draft or someone on the existing roster like Okogie blowing up into a stud, the path of least resistance to NBA relevancy for this squad continues to be defense.
We're currently 12th in offensive rating, which is better than either Indiana or OKC, each of which are in the top 4 of their conference. But defensively, we are still in the bottom 10, albeit better than the last couple of years.
A capped out team like us doesn't have the ability to go land more offensive star power. But we can keep getting better defensively.

I was just curious on where we ranked since Saunders took over and we rank 19th but since Saunders took over the Bucks are 1st in defensive rating a whole 6 pts better than the 2nd team Jazz. Holy shit that is amazing. That is honestly mind blowing.
