Media day

Post by kekgeek »

Nothing important.

- culture talk

- Wiggins about to have his breakout year for the 100th time.

-Teague said it's like New York now. It's crazy around the team

-cov delt with depression during his rehab last year

- Saunders said we will run and shoot more 3s. I hope so because we played really slow once he took over

- they want to use as a facilitator

I haven't watched the whole thing yet (got through about a 1/4 of it yesterday) but my impressions so far:

So much more access than before. When guys aren't talking you see players getting their pics taken chatting with staff etc. sometimes it's kinda fun to see that. You gotta wonder if some of the players and photographers get bored doing this every year. What can they do that's new?

Covington got emotional talking about the injuries last year and dealing with depression. He really opened up a lot.

Dieng doesn't look big he looks slim. Personally I think he plays better when he is more mobile. This team wants to play fast and more modern. Dieng doesn't seem like a modern player but in some ways he kinda sorta is. Years ago he would have been a PF in the NBA.

On a similar note Treveon Graham looks less big than what I remember from last year. He played some 4 last year for the Nets including starting there.

I found it interesting Dave Benz was the MC for this event. Alan Horton has done some of these things at times. I wonder if they are going to move towards Benz doing this or if they may switch it up here and there. Horton is very good on the radio broadcasts.

They had a live DJ when the players weren't speaking. Cool. I mean I don't really care but it seems kinda fun.

Also I've seen comments before that Culver's upper legs thrifts are big and strong. It kinda looked that way when he was sitting there. Feels weird to comment on but I also think that matters for holding position etc.

My apologies for rehashing stuff... but THIS is why many of us are not optimistic about the person who will be most responsible for the success or failure of the 2020 Timberwolves:

_______

"You learn from it," he said. "It's nothing but motivation. You go into the summer knowing that you better work. People are going to doubt you. People are going to think that you lost a step, you lost it, all these things. But all you can focus on is yourself. The fact that I can prove people wrong and get back out there and let people know that I'm still the same player, that's motivation. That means a lot. Work harder, think harder. I want to be great."

______

In bold. It's not the first time Andrew Wiggins has said something similar. If he thinks the player he was (even when averaging 23.6 ppg) is nearly good enough... there's no hope.

Some guys never get it. Granted, quotes are often mostly meaningless. Sometimes, however, they can be telling.

Abe- Yeah I heard that from Wiggins. He thinks he had "it" at some point. He NEVER had "it". You don't have "IT" until you become an All Star. Maybe win a playoff series or two.

It all points to how he was handled early on and since. Given the most minutes despite poor efficiency. Given last second shots. Given a max contract extension. He thinks he was a superstar or is! smh....

I dont know, i think hes taking more personal accountability this media is something he hasnt done before.

Normally he brushes things aside by saying that I need to make shots, work harder, etc.. It now seems that he is seeing some of those faults. Now how that translates to the court is yet to be seen. I dont think we'll see anything immediate, but hopefully he makes adjustments as the season progresses.

Wiggs takes an interview with the probably the biggest anti-wiggs guy in the minnesota sports media. It starts at the 1 hour 8 minute mark.

By far the most encouraging thing I'm taking from today's reports is that they seem to be aware that the culture needs to change. That's really the first step. Now if they can actually change it, we have a chance at a future. Time will tell.

At least they're likeable and probably not competitive. Beats whiny and miserable and not competitive.

No. Some just think you've been irrational with your Wiggins takes. Big difference.

Personally I think Rosas is doing a great job sucking up the media. The media loves this guy. And if the media members believe they can get info they will right positive pieces about the organization. I mean Jim P said this is the most excited he has been about the wolves in a long time.

I hope Rosas is great. I think he has done a great job at getting the right people to like him. But we are going to suck. We have a bottom 3 roster in the west. If KAT gets hurt arguably the worst roster in the NBA.

We are back to smiling old wolves who are terrible at basketball. I hope I'm wrong but I'm not excited to watch losing basketball
