I was just looking at the roster of players under contract with the Wolves. I counted 16 players under contract along with two players under 2-way contracts (McLaughlin & Martin). A team can have up to 15 active roster players and no more than 2 inactive roster players. That means the Wolves could add one more player to their roster. It looks like the Wolves total player payroll is slightly more than $6 million under the luxury tax threshold. So the Wolves have room to add another free agent if they want using what's left of their MLE or the vet minimum.
It will be interesting to see Rosas make another roster move or two before the season starts, although I have a hard time envisioning anything significant. The good news is that the Wolves have luxury tax space to add about $6 million in salary if the need and opportunity arises.
Wolves Roster And Cap Situation
Re: Wolves Roster And Cap Situation
A small reminder that Tyus Battle signed an exhibit 10 contract and he counts toward the roster. Teams can have a total of 20 guys signed at any given time so there is room to add 1 more guy most likely on a training camp deal or another exhibit 10.

I think the 20-player maximum is limited to the preseason. But once the season begins, the roster limit is 17 - 15 active and 2 inactive at any given time. I'm not sure whether the 2-way deals count towards the 17 max. If so, then barring a trade of some kind, the Wolves will have to waive one of their current 16 before the season starts.
As an Exhibit 10 contract, Battle's contract is non-guaranteed.

Good clarification about the 20 minimum it's throughout the offseason but when the season starts it's back down to 15 players plus the 2 way guys. 2 way players are the way to get above 15 unless there is an injury exemption.
Also a I should have clarified that Battle for sure and likely the other exhibit 10 contracts will land in Iowa. One thing I was not aware of the guarantees from the exhibit 10 deals the bonus money players get when they are waived does not count against the cap and yes the exhibit 10 deals are non-guaranteed.
Really the only question about the roster is whether graham or Wallace makes the roster. I could also see the wolves claiming a young vet min guy that get put on waivers or signing a guy that another team lets go and do neither of Wallace is Graham make the roster. Unless something really unforeseen happens I don't see anyone else's spot on the roster being in jeopardy.

Monster - Thanks for the clarification on the two-way deals as the way to get to 17. Wiwth 16 players currently under contract for the upcoming season ,I agree that it comes down to Wallace or Graham. One or the other will be waived. I couldn't even begin to guess which one and I can't see that it matters much.

I agree it's hard to say. What wallace has going for him is he is at least a big Defensive PG...in theory. Think of him as basically an even bigger version of Gary Payton II. I'm not sure either guy is really a PG but the positional versatility on defense is pretty legit and I would say both handle the ball like guards as opposed to wings. Graham...we have a ton of wings (including Martin) but he has accomplished more (than Wallace or Martin) and at least has some ability/willingness to take and in the past make 3's. It will come down to how these guys look (Graham was turning heads in preseason and camp for the Nets...but Bazz was doing that not too long ago! Lol) and probably what other ball handlers or wings do as well. If Culver or McLaughlin or even Nowell look like they wouldn't be totally lost handling the ball if called on then Wallace may not have much of a chance if it's even between him and Graham. I think both guys have a chance at being solid vet rotation guys or even just worthwhile 11th or 12th guys. Those types of players can have value. I think Graham is more likely to actually be a rotation player in the league partly because he is more known and has done it already to some extent. It's worth remembering that the wolves got paid to take Graham so even though his salary would count against the cap if cut he was still a free look at a player. Like I said there is even a chance they grab another guy that becomes available if both are underwhelming. Calm down Lip I know you are just getting sooooooooooo excited about this battle for the last roster spot. :)

Lol. Yes, I'm on the edge of my seat as I watch this dramatic battle for that critical roster spot.
Re: Wolves Roster And Cap Situation
Some fun/moderately interesting stuff about Tyus Battle a future Iowa Wolf. lol
He is from New Jersey. He transferred his senior year to the HS Towns graduated from. I'd assume he and Towns knew each other to some extent. He didn't want to leave his old school but finally made the switch when his brother (freshman) was going to be on the team and he did have a long commute to school and his family could come to more games. Everything I have read called him a great guy, hard worker and terrific teammate.
Various scouting reports actually say he could be considered a combo guard because he handled the ball so much at Syracuse. They were not a good offensive team his last 2 years and he was basically the offense and played a ton of minutes. Thibs would love this guy. Obviously defense is unknown because he played in a zone. I wonder if he could become something like Ty Wallace as a guy with alot of position flexibility. Oh he loves the midrange...
He already graduated taking 18 credit hours his last 2 semesters for a degree in IT and knows 4 computer languages. So if this basketball thing doesn't work out maybe he can mentor with Gupta to be an analytic guy in an NBA front office. lol There could be some value in having a player like that even at your lower levels that likely has more of an understanding of how analytical stuff works.
I've always had some affinity for Battle. He just looks like a baller but the stats are admittedly quite underwhelming. He never progressed as a 3 point shooter (the shot doesn't look good) and nothing else jumps out statistically except he can take alot of shots. I don't have high hopes for this guy but he seems like a guy that's easy to cheer for. He turns 22 next month. There are alot of guys like Battle that I think do have talent but it never really progressed. Sometimes it seems like later it clicks and they player turns into something even if its just a rotation NBA guy. Most of the time it doesn't and they end up playing internationally which ain't a bad gig relatively speaking. I have no illusions about Battle but I enjoyed learning more about him.

Interesting info. I didn't know most of that. He got some decent playing time in Vegas. He didn't put up any impressive numbers, but I recall loving the energy and effort he brought to the floor. Looked like a guy who really likes it battle on the defensive end (pun intended). :) Seriously, there's some potential there and he's the sort of guy I'd love to see succeed.
