Some on this Board may recall my thoughts on the Wolves' Summer League players after watching them live in Vegas. I thought Naz Reid, McLaughlin and Martin were the most impressive Wolves players and I wanted the Wolves to sign all three for next season. I was surprised the Wolves hadn't already giving the other 2-way contract to Martin and was worried it might not happen. So I'm really pleased to see them finally do the deal.

Of all the Wolves players in Summer League, I'd actually though Martin was the most impressive. He's another talented young player added to the Wolves organization. It will be interesting to see how he develops. He already has an NBA body and a pretty broad array of skills, including 3-point shooting and rebounding.

I'd guess Martin wasn't their first choice for this contract. I'm perfectly happy with adding him though he certainly played well in SL to get a shot. I'm not really sold on his 3 point shooting based on his percentages in college and play in Europe last year. He certainly fits the mold of playing various positions with his body and wingspan.

Camp and preseason will be interesting and they may still add a player but adding Tuus battle on a training camp deal they are at 19 contracts and are limited to having 20 guys. I'd guess Jordon Murphy will be hanging around.

Back to the roster competition and construction the Wolves are still light on PGs and ball handlers. Martin is sort of similar to Graham shorter stronger guy with long arms. Tyrone Wallace still has a shot at making this roster. McLaughlin might have a shot at getting an actual NBA deal if he plays well and other guys don't. Martin could have a shot too although i think that's a bit less likely because they don't need wings as bad as Guards. The competition for these roster spots isn't gonna blow anyone's socks off anything but I do think a spot is open for grabs...and can be lost by players with contracts in Graham and Wallace.

Monster - Good point about the Wolves being light on PGs and ball-handlers. Right now, it's just Teague and Napier. I'm thinking that the final 14 or 15 players on the final roster when the season begins won't come entirely from among the current 19. Just a hunch.

Interesting hunch. A trade? Cassell coming out of retirement? Point Melo? :) There really isn't younger PGs out there that are much more inspiring than what we already have. Honestly if we were going to sign a vet I think Jeremy Lin would be a worthwhile buy low candidate. I think there is a chance he can still play and if he can he could help the the team and maybe be a guy a team gives up something for before the trade deadline. Even if we got nothing for him and he looked good for us even for a few weeks...it would make the Wolves look good. The other vet ball handlers Like Livingston...I don't think are coming here. If we need a guy to help us tank we could sign Jamal Crawford. Lol

I still think there is reason to be somewhat intrigued by Tyrone Wallace because of his length even if he can't shoot 3's.

Regarding point guard depth. I continue to believe that culver may be a legit and good option there. He is very good at the pick and roll game in college and dominated the ball for his team. His passing is underrated and can certainly make plays.

I certainly want to see him play pg minutes for us over wallace or napier.

Playing culver at pg fits with the strategy and play style rosas is touting.

Solid signing. While there is always reason to be suspect about a Timberwolves' player shooting pedigree, from a pure "eye test" perspective, he absolutely looks like he has a repeatable, smooth stroke.

In Summer League, he played mostly PF and held his own. He really rebounded the ball and shot well. Defensively.....a little shaky.

This would be the first year we would not to be paying him so yeah I guess we needed a Martin on the books.
