Milwaukee
Milwaukee beat Toronto today in their first playoff game. Mmmmm, it must have been all of their superior experience and veteran players that led the way. Nope.
Starting 5:
PG - Brogdon - Rookie
SG - Snell - 4th year
SF - Middleton - 5th year
PF - Giannis - 4th year (and still only 22)
C - Maker - Rookie (19 years old!)
And don't forget they had the 21 year old Parker as a key starter prior to his injury.
This team went 42-20 and are now competing in the playoffs, starting two effing rookies.
What's our excuse again?

Great win for the Bucks. The Wolves have had 3 different coaches while Jason Kidd has been there. That's not a small thing.

These guys are professionals. Going from one coach to another should not flummox players that much. Some concepts like effort, boxing out, hustle, and communication are taught by all coaches.
But I do agree that Kidd is good. Thibs obviously wasn't able to push the right buttons with our more talented squad (more talented on paper at least).

I'm saying having the same people in charge and having a system in place where players know what they are doing and working on the same stuff makes a difference. Also it doesn't seem Thibs was working with his main goal to try and win as many games as possible this season. My guess that's going bone a little different next year. I think continuity and the young players maturing they will be relatively up to the task.
Also the Bucks are an example of why you don't just stop getting good young players. Adding Delly was a nice move he fits well with their players and it probably doesn't hurt having a guy that's played in back to back finals on your squad.

Thibs was with our guys since Summer League. Then they had the training camp before the training camp. Then they had training camp. We had the exact same starting 5 as the team that ended the prior season. Our two "pillars" never missed a game. Etc., etc. There was plenty of continuity.
I actually think Thibs messed up. He put too much pressure offensively on KAT, LaVine and Wig, but not enough defensively. He played these guys tons and tons of minutes, never holding them accountable for crappy defense. He should have been willing to bench them more readily. That surely would have hurt our offense, but may be they would have realized he was serious about being better defensively. Instead, he enabled poor effort and poor habits.
He didn't back up his tough talk on defense with action. Instead, he kept piling the minutes on.

Congrats on beating the perennial choker Raptors after making the playoffs in the weak conferemce. Instead of being happy that they're increasing the chances of us getting Ibaka let's make a terrible comparison to our team

Re: Milwaukee
There have been several Milwaukee vs. Minnesota young core threads on this forum.
Even though Milwaukee's core has been much more injury-prone... they've been quite a bit better overall (Ws and Ls).
[Note: Oh, and Thon Maker is a rookie... but he's anywhere from 19 - 43 years old. Nobody seems to know.]

I think you are underestimating the worth of having a system in place to develop players. That doesn't surprise me based on your other posts. Let's agree to disagree on that point.

Interesting team. Giannis is on his way to being a great player, needs to develop a better outside game though. Brogdon is a super young player, so is Maker. Too bad Parker has had the knee injuries, I wonder if he ever really fulfills his promise now. But the Bucks at least have a chance to become a beast in the East. I'm pulling for them.

Re: Milwaukee
Giannis sets the tone for that team. He does everything for them on both sides of the ball and it rubs off on his teammates. Towns and Wiggins get their stats and take plays off on defense. If Wiggins and Towns defended and got their teammates involved like Giannis we'd probably have a winning record also. Towns and Wiggins played with Melo's mentality this year while Giannis played with Lebron's. I wonder why their team made the playoffs and ours didn't?
