Twins fire Doug Mientkiewicz
I didn't know much about him as a manager, but he was winning. Not sure what the reason was behind it. I would love Jesters opinion or anyone with more knowledge of this level of baseball. Only thing I could see is he might not have been the best fit in a system even if he was a good fit as a manager.

I really don't like this move. Dougie Baseball is beloved by his players...or at least the ones who don't mind his upfront style. And he wins. I sense this is a move precipitated by a personality conflict. Dougie is a confident guy...bordering on arrogant...and doesn't always play well with those up the organizational ladder from him. I'm guessing the new brain trust didn't like his lack of subservience, and decided to get rid of him. Bad move for the organization, but some smart franchise will gobble him up quickly.

BTW, the new brain trust firing Dougie plus several other minor league employees despite remarkable success last season doesn't bode well for Molitor's chances of coming back. It's a clear sign that they want to make their mark by bringing in their own guys.

Maybe has something to do with that brawl he started during a game. He sprinted out of the dugout to tackle the other manager..

They would of fired Molitor after his 100 loss season if that was the case, They give him another shot.

Hoops- the new guys weren't hired until November...typically new guys take a season to evaluate their people in person rather than just hear-say, and it appears that is what they are doing here. Chattanooga won 91 games under Dougie last season and finished 15 games ahead of the second place team, and that still wasn't enough to save his job. The new guys seem intent on shaking things up, and I don't know that Mollie either missing the playoffs or barely sneaking in to a playoff game should be viewed more favorably than Chattanooga's season. I was a big fan of Molitor as a player, but he is clearly consistently overmatched as a manager. I hope the new guys have recognized all of Mollie's blunders this season and make a move as soon as the season is over.

It's been widely reported that the Polhads basically required whoever was taking over to keep Molitor after this season.
Let's be honest when new people come in they fire and hire people. Flip (bringing this baseball post in a basketball forum around) fired some long times guys (one of which Thibs hired back) and hired his own guys. It was far from a bloodbath but he still made some moves.
As for Doug M. I'm curious about any inside information also. The story i read with quotes from him reminded me of Sam Mitchell in how he was not happy in how he was let go and plenty grouchy about it. Sam probably had some right to be upset and maybe Doug did too but saying stuff like they did on the way out makes you wonder if there were some legit reasons they weren't the guy to begin with.
One theory I would have was Doug M willing to embrace looking at all the new stats etc? It would be a bit amusing if that was the case because I would think he was a guy that advanced stats probably favored as a player

Monster, we don't know exactly what happened, but it sure seems odd that a guy manages a team to 92 wins and then gets fired. Your Mitchell theory makes some sense. Sam didn't win 92 games, but he had the team playing well at the end of the season and was rightly pissed when he was shown the door. Mitchell and Dougie have similar personalities...respected by their peers and players, but surly to the press and management. This smacks much more of a personality firing than a performance one.

Doug is a minor league manager so we don't have the info we had on Sam. As a minor league manager he doesn't have to be as much of the face of the franchise as Sam was as an NBA head coach. (Sam might actually be a good G-league coach). I think Sam could feel upset the way he was let go but the way he conducted himself was absolutely a reason he got fired and the way he acted afterward confined it.
We know fewer info about the reasons and circumstances of letting Doug go and there is no good time to fire someone. You have to admit getting fired/let go and not getting any reason is kinda tough especially when you have so many years tied to that organization. How are you supposed to move on? How can you better yourself without any feedback? Maybe he got more feedback than he shared in the piece I read but he is emotional about it all and is being a bit irrational. Remember Sam said he straight up hung up the phone on Scott Layden. Anyway it will be interesting to hear some more info if anything comes out and I bet someone will share some info in the next few weeks.
