CoolBreeze's 2 Things I Didn't Like Tonight Plus 1

Post by Coolbreeze44 »

A quick 2 + 1 for the Brooklyn game:

1) As you know, I'm the biggest Wiggins fan we have. But he frustrates the hell out of me sometimes. He needs to start dunking the basketball every single chance he gets. I'm tired of seeing his layups roll off the rim, and him trying to finesse the ball into the hoop. Go up and power it down!

2) Something needs to be done about moving KMart. Not because he was bad yesterday, in fact he had one of his better games. But we MUST clear some room for Shabazz to get consistent minutes. 10 minutes just isn't enough run for him. Coming off a real nice effort I'm sure it was sobering for him to play so little. He needs to develop just like our other young guys, and we don't want him sulking or looking for a way out of here.

Plus 1 - Just when I ripped Ricky to shreds in another thread, he starts to play like a man possessed. If he can contribute like he has the past few games, his scoring really doesn't matter very much. He has played with unbelievable energy and leadership, and has even brought back some of the flair that I feel is essential to his game. Bravo Ricky, stay healthy.

And that's Cool's 2 things I didn't like tonight Plus 1.

Im with this one 100%. When Wiggins can jump 3 feet above the hoop no one is going to stop him. Throw it down.

Yeah, I'm not sure what the hell Andrew was thinking on that fast-break layup he missed. Rubio hits him in stride and I thought he was going to go all Dr. J on us. Instead he tries to finger-roll in a layup, as if he were trying to gently place a sleeping baby onto the rim. Throw it down dog!

Last season these occasional lapses in energy/effort by Wiggins was excused by many folks due to the heavy burden he carried as such a young rookie. He had to guard the opponents' best wing AND carry a huge role in the offense.

This year he's got Prince chasing around the more prolific wings, KG and Towns manning the paint, and others stepping up to help offensively. Plus his minutes are slightly down.

I don't know....may be it's just a maturity thing with him and we'll see less and less of it. But these lapses can be frustrating as hell. Also, how the hell does he let Bojan Bogdonavic beat him backdoor!?

(I'll stop complaining - we did win after all and he had an efficient game offensively).

For what it's worth:

Per 36 minutes:

- Wiggins -- 21.8 ppg / 3.9 reb / 1.7 ast / 43.8%
- LaVine -- 21.3 ppg / 5.0 reb / 5.1 ast / 42.9%

Like everyone else said And Jim Pete has been saying for a few games Wiggins needs to be dunking on guys. Maybe Zingis is still in his head or something.

Ive felt like Wiggins has been more active the last couple games going for rebounds loose balls etc. if he keeps up that effort I think we would be pretty happy with it but we will see.

I agree on both points. monster...more dunking needed from Wig, and he has been more aggressive pursuing loose balls.

But I'm more and more surprised at how bad his hands are. We've talked a lot here about his poor handle, but more disturbing to me is his inability to hold on to the ball in contested situations. I think his deficiency in that area is highlighted by the positive comment we noticed above. His increased intensity has put him in contention for 50/50 balls more frequently, and I'm noticing more that he isn't winning. What troubles me is that I don't see that as an attribute that a player improves in...it's more innate. Hope I'm wrong.

I'm concerned about this too LST. His lack of hand strength is very noticeable. One possible positive is it seems to be worse in the beginning of games, and not as bad in the 4th quarter. Maybe that's just my perception though.

Some guys just have some sort of knack for grabbing the ball. Wiggins doesn't seem to have that exactly but I do think we need to remember the guy is young. At times he loses the ball maybe not because of strength issues its because he puts it in places it's easy to knock out and winning 50/50 balls is a lot about positioning yourself too. Zach and Dieng both get stripped because they bring the ball down sometimes Zach will get better Dieng we will see but that's a problem for Wiggins too. Wiggins is so talented and he has an intensity but he hasn't channeled it all yet. It's hard because you can see all kinds of stuff he couldn't do and when he doesn't do it it leaves you disappointed but I don't worry a huge deal about it because there are so many flashes of intensity smarts talent etc that I don't think he just stalls in his development like some other guys that probably flash into our brains.
