Miller signing official, bonus Funkadelic

Post by 60WinTim »

Coming up now on KFAN...

I guess this means Miller can't pull a DeAndre Jordan!

The biggest takeaways for me

Penberthy is going to be back.

After being asked if he was done Flip said he had some wiggle room if there was something that made the te better and I think he did something about a vet up front.

Maybe there were some other interesting tidbits but those were the ones that jumped out at me.

Yeah, those were the two note worthy items, although there was some more discussion on the 3-point thingy that will make Q barf...

This is the 2nd or 3rd time we've heard "add another vet" since the Miller announcement, and this time it was from Flip and included the "up front" phrase. Lets see - we have 15 guaranteed contracts, not including LoBrown. And we have 7 bigs on the roster already, although Flip could be referring to a SF/PF, which wouldn't be good news for Rudez.

Still, it sure seems like thin ice for Bennett...

Forgot to add:

- Pek is feeling great!
- Rubio is in town and expects to be cleared for full basketball activities this week after visiting doctors out in LA.

Yep Tim Rudez and Bennett are basically the only guys that are likely at all to be moved right now. I believe 9/15 is when Rudez can be included with another salary in a trade. Rudez has always seemed to me to be a guy that would be easy to move. Flip went through a bunch of players talking about shooting the 3 and I realize he was mostly talking about the team in the future but he didn't mention Rudez so you could maybe read into something there I suppose. Bennett is a mystery guy but he has helped himself so far this summer looking in great shape and playing well in the Pan Am games.

I wonder what vet(s)Flip has in mind you know he has one or more.

We have KG, Miller, Martin, Pek, Bjelica and I would even consider Ricky a vet at this point in his career. Why would we need another one at the expense of a player currently on the roster? Three guys have to sit per game on a 15 man roster. Unless this vet is clearly a rotation guy and can put someone on the bench for the year there are no more moves in my mind to be made. We have injury protection everywhere now too so it's not like we're thin somewhere.

Khans. Bjelica is a rookie. I know he's 27 and play a bunch of pro seasons overseas but he is a rookie in the nba and will be treated as such by everyone. No way do I consider him a vet already. He is not going to have that presence until he proves he belong in the league.

It's pretty easy to see where Flip is coming from. Rubio going down last year was a killer, but nearly as bad was the situation with our bigs! Pek, Dieng and Turiaf were the Cs, leaving us with just Dieng for most of the season. Young, Bennett and Hummel were our PFs. Young was AWOL with the family issue, Bennett has yet to show anything, and Hummel ain't no PF! We acquired Payne and KG before the trade deadline, losing Young in the process. KG played 5 games, Payne was a worthless rookie, and Hummel and Bennett suffered injuries. Our bigs to finish the season were Bennett, Payne and Budinger! Although Flip did add a D-League big a couple times throughout the season...

Flip assumes KG and Pek will miss some games this upcoming season. So our bigs would be Dieng, two rookies in Towns and Bjelica, and two guys who have yet to show anything in Payne and Bennett. No wonder he feels the need to add a veteran big guy!

And it sure seems like Bennett will be the odd man out to make room for that big guy.
