Andre Miller!
Great signing!
Re: Andre Miller!
Agreed. I really like this for Ricky. Andre was a very unconventional scorer that made it work, Ricky can learn a lot from him.

Re: Andre Miller!
Boy, I have mixed feelings about this, which lands me squarely in the neutral box.
Pros:
- It's the final nail in the coffin of LaVine at PG. We now have three "pure" PGs on the roster, so LaVine can focus exclusively on being a SG.
- He knows how to run an offense and is more of a pass-first backup than even Mo Williams. That means when it comes to our bench, guys like Bazz, LaVine, and Bjelica are going to get a ton of touches. Our offense will start with Miller, but it will most likely end with one of those three guys.
- He's another veteran.....wait for it.....mentor! While I poke fun at this with KG, it's not because I don't believe in it. I just don't think it solves world hunger. Or create good players out of bad ones.
- His quiet (and perhaps even somewhat aloof) leadership style should be a nice complement to KG's more vocal, hands-on style. Both are veteran leaders in their own right, but in very complementary ways. I kind of like that mix. It can get old real fast if you have a bunch of grumpy old men barking at you all day and night.
Cons:
- He exhibits neither of the attributes we need most on this team - defense and 3-point shooting.
While the list of Pros is longer than the Cons, the reality is that Andre Miller won't really move the needle in terms of team performance next season because of his inability to defend and shoot.
However....perhaps his presence helps with the matriculation of our youngsters in a way that LoBrow can't replicate. That should pay off in the "out years" of this particular rebuild, long after Andre Miller is gone.

Re: Andre Miller!
I like the signing. I think we all knew deep down that Flip was going to add a couple of older vets to mix in with the young core. That's the way they always do it. At worst, this just creates competition. Tyus Jones will have to play well (maybe in the D-league) to earn minutes vs. being handed playing time. At best, Miller plays decent and adds that coveted "Veteran Presence" to the second unit.
Re: Andre Miller!
Excellent fit. Always been a big Miller guy. I wanted him over Wally back in the day. Should be good for Tyus to sit next to him for a year.
Re: Andre Miller!
Q I've said this whole time I wanted a backup PG that can play I don't care what the strengths (and weaknesses) are just that he can actually play. Sometimes I feel like it's almost like this board wants a backup PG that can play D run an offense well and shoot 3's and be capable of they need to play 30mpg. That's a starting PG not a backup. Miller is likely to set up guys for better 3 point shots so that may help a little in the 3 point shooting area.
One other thing Miller can give you is a possession or 2 of old man game getting a bucket when a team needs someone to just score to stop the bleeding and it's going to be an efficient shot not just some chunking like others guys will give you both good and bad.
In short Miller is going to make players better on offense better than anyone else that's out there. That's pretty valuable. Also the dude is a machine he basically never misses games. Maybe he can pass that on to other players. Lol

I trust that was a sarcastic remark.

I hear you Monster. There is no doubt having a competent and selfless backup PG at the helm that "knows how to play the game" has value, at least in helping to develop our bench and young guys offensively. Make no mistake about it, he won't be taking shots or opportunities away from the likes of LaVine, Shabazz, or Bjelica. But he's of limited value in terms of pure short-term wins and losses because he lacks two of the skills we need most: Shooting and defense.
It seems to me that Flip's roster construction is less focused on specific functional needs (e.g. rebounding, outside shooting, defense, etc.) and more focused on the blending of age and experience. As a result, we will head into next season with the same two gaping holes we had last season from a pure functional perspective. I fully expect us to remain firmly entrenched in the bottom third of the league in defensive efficiency and 3-point shooting.
Perhaps in Year 3 or 4 of this particular rebuild (I consider this next season to be Year 2) Flip will turn his attention to finding players that can help shore up our functional weaknesses. Right now it appears to be all about development, which is probably OK.
