Who Got the Best of the Deal - Magic or Thunder?
One of the more interesting moves draft night was the Orlando-OKC deal. The Magic acquired Ibaka in exchange for Oladipo, Ilyasova and the draft rights to Sabonis. Which team got the best of that deal?

Option 2. The Thunder got what they needed to take down GS in a playoff series if it's enough to keep Durant. Orlando got the defensive stretch 4 they need next to Vucevic.

I voted Orlando got fleeced. That can change if Ibaka becomes sort of an Al Horford type do a lot of stuff well guy which in theory he has the ability to do. ultimately it's a trade of 3 guys who will be FA after this year (Ibaka and Oladipo are gonna get paid) and a draft pick that turned out to be Sabonis. OKC filled 2 starting positions and added a young player in Sabonis while Oralndo added 1 vet that they will have to pay a bunch of money to retain. The trade could be a win win for both teams but Ibaka has to prove that.
Re: Who Got the Best of the Deal - Magic or Thunder?
That's how I voted, Monster. I thought it was a coup for the Thunder.
At his best, Ibaka is a 3rd wheel on any championship contender. Yet, Ibaka's key numbers are declined in each of the last three seasons -- points, rebounds and blocks. His less than 7 rebounds per game in over 30 minutes last season was not impressive to say the least.
In contrast, the Thuder received a dynamic two-way SG in Oladipo who hasn't even reached his prime yet. What a devastating backcourt duo the Thunder will have with this guy and Westbrook. That one-for-one swap of Oladipo for Ibaka could be considered a fair deal, although I'd take Dipo over Ibaka. But the Thunder also received a very good stretch 4 in Ily, a career 37% three-point shooter. Then they get Sabonis. It was highway robbery!

It was an outstanding deal for the Thunder. It makes them a better team next year and in the future. That being said the Magic added a quality player that fits what they need.

Another year, another draft night destroyed by Sam Presti.
EVEN IF Ilyasova wasn't a team option that could be declined in the next 4 days, they traded one player making (and not earning) $12.5m for three players EARNING $17m, which then becomes two players EARNING $8.6m. So if OKC declines Ilyasova and Morrow team options (which they probably will), they have 10 (pretty good) players signed $60.2m, leaving $34m in caproom.

Good perspective. Word is they are keeping Ilyasova. Presti tweeted something about him leading the league in charges last year or something. Your point still stands though and another thing to consider is Ilyasova could be a nice trade chip in a few months.

I voted that the Magic got fleeced. Ibaka likely would have left this upcoming season whether Durant/Westbrook stayed or left.

Thank you. Not the worst move in the world if they keep Ilyasova, but overall I would cut ties. I think he is hoping someone makes a deal for him.
Watching Sam Presti on draft night is like walking on the beach in St. Augustine or the Hamptons (or Clearwater pre-spill), and watching Chuck Fletcher on draft night is like getting stung by a jellyfish.

Re: Who Got the Best of the Deal - Magic or Thunder?
I would be pretty upset if I were an Orlando Magic fan. They were sold on the Promise of Hope for multiple seasons. So what does the team do? It trades two HUGE pieces of that promise for less-than-expected returns.
1. Tobias Harris for Brandon Jennings + Ersaon Ilyasova. Everybody expected Harris to get a #1 back. Instead, the Magic traded a young guy on a good long-term deal for 1/2 season of Brandon Jennings coming off knee surgery and Ersan Ilyasova... which...
2. Oladipo + #11 pick + Ersan Ilyasova for Serge Ibaka. So, the other key young guy gets traded along with another young guy (#11) plus the pick they just traded the other young guy for... all to get 1 year of Serge Ibaka?
What? WHAT???
Here's a team that was losing but allegedly growing together. A team of talented youngsters. And they all get traded for 1 year from a veteran? And they lose draft picks?
Basically, the Magic turned Oladipo + Tobias Harris + #11 pick into Serge Ibaka (one year).
It goes against EVERYTHING that organization has been telling fans for 5 years. Dumb.
