Good Article.

Liked the section - Is Gorgui Dieng Going to Be Worth the Money?

I think we might have the same thing with Shabazz. I think if Flip was still in charge we might see him start tanking/developing the rest of the way.

Sit KG/Martin/Prince. Use the following players. Wiggins, Towns, Rubio, LaVine, Shabazz, Dieng, Jones, Payne, and Pek. (I think Pek could have trade value if he showed he can stay healthy the rest of the way and have some strong games)

Call me old-fashioned, I want the Wolves to turn the progress they are making into a few wins, and maybe even knock at the playoffs door given the number of West teams struggling...

Do "whatever it takes" to further the development/growth of Towns and Wiggins. They are the future. Both need to improve a lot.

In the grand scheme of things, everything else is secondary.

The bold section is exactly why I questioned the signing of KG to begin with. Did many here honestly think we were going to be a playoff bound team this year? So now we have an $8MM contract in KG for this and next year, and we just sit him? Man, seems we could have utilized that money in the off-season to sign someone that actually matters.

And no, Dieng isn't going to be worth the contract. Based on comparable players, he will get $8-10MM per. He is simply not worth it IMO. You can't saddle your team with mid-tier talent at this much money.

1. MENTORSHIP!
2. To be fair, $10M might be the going-rate for a relatively decent backup center in today's/tomorrow's NBA (huge salary cap).

I don't see where Gorgi is worth even close to double digits. While I realize the cap is going up drastically, the salaries at the top will be affected the most (as is the case in the NBA). Currently the highest salaries that I have observed for backup C's are with guys like Kosta Koufus, and Tiago Splitter, who are both borderline starters. They are both still under the 10 mil mark. I know salaries will take a jump in the next several seasons, but I still see Gorgi's value more in line with guys like Ajinca and Lavoy Allen, who both are under 5 mil. We have to remember that he is a backup on one of the worst teams in teh NBA. If we had a quality PF playing big minutes, G wouldn't see much floor time. At 26 years old, I don't really see any upside in this guy.

This is where the wolves screwed up in the KG area. They drastically overpaid for mediocre players. The wolves need to do a better job of managing the cap. We can easily get a suitable replacement for G in FA or in a trade. Remember that Wiggins and Towns ( if they develop) will be getting contracts starting around the 25-30 mil range per year.

He might not be for the Wolves, I dunno. I'm not suggesting he is... only that it's conceivable he might get it. If I had to guess, I'd say $10M is on the high end... but a $4M deal like Ajilca or Allen is on the low end. Somewhere in between...?

And that depends on whether teams consider him a "relatively decent backup center"...

I was watching the warriors, cavs game last night and just wow. Curry, green and Co. will kill us for the next 5 years, and so will the spurs.

We need Zach, bazz, wiggy Towns and maybe belly to improve quickly

If Durant stays in OKC (with Westbrook), there's no reason to think that team won't keep winning 55+ games consistently, too.

Agreed. We have to hope for some breakups with these teams at the top and/or get more mentors
