Halfway Mark

Post by Coolbreeze44 »

12-29, which at the risk of offending Q with my chest thumping is exactly what I predicted in the wins thread before the season started. My thought was we would come on the 2nd half and finish with 31 wins. Going to stick with that prediction but can't see it under Mitchell. Here's to hoping we see some big changes in the 2nd half of the season. Wishful thinking?

I don't think so. Many of us have been posting about the Wolves through darker times than this. Always room for more delusion in Minnesota sports. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Looking on the bright side, we are in 4th place in the lottery derby and are closing in on 3rd place. We have a realistic shot at Simmons or Ingram and Dunn and Brown are not bad either. We might need another blue chipper in case Zach isn't the cornerstone we hoped he'd be. Plus we almost certainly will get a new coach next year.

Sadly the hope of a better lottery pick is something to hope for right now no doubt. What else is there?

I've said this before but part of the success of a season is if you can say players are successful or not. Can you say at the end of this season whether some guys are useful or how useful they are? Can you eliminate a guy that has shown himself not worth keeping around? I hope there is enough the 2nd half of the season to be able to make some reasonable takes on players on this squad. I want to see if guys like Bazz and Dieng show a little more. Can Tyus show a bit more promise? Can Lavine break out of his funk and look more like a guy that's closer to being a core player like he was earlier in the year? Etc etc.

12-29 in itself is not too far below what a lot of people predicted. And if we had started 4-21 and were 8-8 in our last 16 I'd be feeling fine about it. But instead we are 4-21 in our last 25 and guys look more lost now than they did to start the season.

If you sat down each player individually and asked him what his role on the team was, how many could actually give you an answer?

The other observation I'll add on the first half of the season is how disappointing it is that this team is actually not that fun to watch right now, even despite losing. I mean c'mon, you have last year's rookie of the year, this year's likely rookie of the year, one of the best passers in the NBA, the slam dunk champion, KG, etc., and yet it's just ugly, uninspired basketball most of the time. The last home game I went to (and the only one this season actually) I wasn't sure if I was in Target Center or a morgue. The only thing missing was the smell of formaldehyde.

Maybe we ran out of Magic Mentoring Potion... Perhaps all we need is KG, Andre and Tayshaun to talk more... Yeah, that'll do it... Or better yet, let's trade Kevin Martin for Vince Carter and get another way-past-his-prime veteran to add to the bunch. Maybe Wiggins will be inspired by his childhood idol.

Things really fell apart in a hurry. And we don't have injuries to blame, so......

It's very disappointing they couldn't build on what was a very nice start to the season. You'd think with a group of young guys playing well - they'd just get more experience/confidence and play better as the season progresses. That's not happening. They need to make some changes. But the problem now becomes the "interim" nature of the Coach and GM. Do we want those guys making trades? I know Glen would have to sign off on anything. But I wonder if it's best to just ride out the year without making any deals until we get our new leadership in place? I don't want to deal someone like Bazz for a Chase Budinger type/bad contract. Maybe new leadership would find the current pieces more useful than whatever crap we'd get back in trades? IDK. No more football to watch and now on 2016 NBA lotto pick watch again. Just another Minnesota winter I guess.

Maybe we can get KAT to stop jacking up long 2's to start the game, and actually try playing in the low post. That way we won't fall behind by ten points in the first 6 minutes of the game.

Sammich still wears an earring? I know the NBA is all about fashion and marketing, but cmon man. Yeah this season has been awful once again. I think we ought to not take another 20 year old. Perhaps a new coach next year and a good trade or free agent.signing can help, but honestly I have no faith in this teams direction.

Please. Please make that happen. Mitchell's abandoned using Towns as the roll man or using him in the low-post. He's essentially being used like Dante Cunningham was a few years ago, which is disgusting given how talented Towns is, especially around the rim.
