Now that KG is retired.....
If only he and JR could have stayed together.

History is starting to show you need three very good to great players to make a run. Unfortunately, KG didn't really get that support here until that one or two years with Sam and Spree. Then off to Boston to join Pierce and Ray Allen - boom, a ring. Funny how that works. Hopefully if KAT and or Wiggins become bonafide stars (KAT is probably already there) we make some moves to bring in that last piece or two.
Re: Now that KG is retired.....
This is the right move for both parties. Kg cant play a full nba season anymore. He cant even play more than 15mins a game on a part time schedule. If Duncan retired, there is no reason for kg not to.
We are blessed to have kg play for us as he did a lot for the franchise and gave his best years to the team. Its a shame we were only able to get past the 1st round of the playoffs once when he was at his peak. That is more on management than it is on kg though. He will go down as a true hall of famer and the best player in franchise history.(Towns has a very good chance to surpass him but it is kg's claim for another decade at least).
That said, things look much cleare with kg retiring. The big rotation will be Towns and Dieng starting with Cole and Belly as the backups and hill as the 5th big. This is also Towns and Wiggins team from here on.

From Alan Horton Wolves Radio
KG retires as only player in NBA history w/ career totals of at least 25k points, 10k rebounds, 5k assists, 1.5k blocks & 1.5k steals. #HOF

Also I'd much rather have seen a healthy Googs and KG stay together. People forget the Wolbes had their 3 terrific players KG Marbury and Googs. McHale brought all 3 to the Wolves. Just sayin.

....or perhaps we have all the pieces.
In the second half of last season, we sported the 7th best offensive rating in the league. That's 41 games, so a fairly significant sample. Our starting 5 (with LaVine and Dieng) was one of the most potent offensive 5-man units in the league.
I have zero concerns about this team being able to score enough points, which means it's all about defense. Perhaps the "missing piece" is Thibs. We shall see.

There is certainly some reason to hope. It was a fun team to watch at the end of last year. But yeah, that defense. As of now, it looks like the same starting five coming back. If so, it will be very, very interesting to see what a difference a coach makes.
And while I'm not ready to crown anyone players as part of a Big 3 on our team yet, the fact that Towns, Wiggins and LaVine are all only 21 is pretty exciting. Would be nice to see one of those guys in the All Star game this year.

KAT is a big 3 piece right now, unquestionably IMO.

Re: Now that KG is retired.....
Yup. He was good enough to be a Big 3 piece last season.....probably not a #1 guy, but certainly good enough to be the 2nd or 3rd best player on a deep playoff team. He was already that good.
I think he'll eventually be a #1 guy and that reduces some of the pressure on Wiggins to be the type of jack-of-all trades superstar some folks may have expected. If he can continue the efficient scoring he showed in the second half of last season and focus on being a much better overall defender, he'll definitely be part of our "Big 3".

I won't argue with anyone who wants to put KAT down as the 1st piece of the "Big 3". He had an excellent 1st season and it would be logical to assume he will get better coming back with another year of maturity/experience. I was approaching it more from the standpoint of you generally have to prove it over a longer period of time to get that sort of recognition. One season can be a fluke. I don't believe that will be the case. But that's where I was coming from. As far as Wiggins/LaVine, they seem like they could get there too. But they haven't been able to put up the sort of Advanced stats that KAT did (yet)..
