Bust thread
Bust thread
Do you have a guy you want to stay away from?
Do you have a guy you think will be a disappointment?
Do you have a guy you just think will flat out bust?
Name em here.
* Like Cam said in the PF/C thread some of this could depend on where guys end up but we don't know that yet.

Chriss. I'm never a fan of guys who shoot up draft boards significantly without playing any more real games since college. He has tools, but he's so far away from an IQ standpoint based on everything I've read about him that I just don't think he'll ever pan out. I don't think too many guys pan out if basketball IQ is a red flag going into the draft.

I don't have a great feel for him but he does remind me of the wave of guys that hit the league after KG when teams tried to find the next KG. Raw, high athleticism, sky high potential. This pick would give me the most uneasy feeling of the rumored top 5 picks.

I'm thinking you might be right on this one.
Re: Bust thread
A bust is typically a physically gifted player who generates high expectations and then fails miserably to come anywhere close to meeting those expectations. Some prominent examples who have found their way onto past Wolves rosters include JR Rider, Rashaad McCants, Darko, Kandiman and Wes Johnson. Derrick Williams isn't quite bad enough in my view to be considered a bust, but he's pretty close.
The common thread, other than a medical condition or injury, that seems to run through all NBA busts is the lack of a high motor or to a lesser degree a low basketball IQ. Sometimes it's substance abuse. Nearly all of them had a draft report somewhere questioning their motor. For example, I remember Hoiberg telling me that Derrick Williams liked the NBA lifestyle more than he liked basketball. That's another way of saying Derrick didn't have much of a motor. Smiling Wes was just happy to hang out and talk with the guys on the bench. Darko had no motor. Rider was motivated by his love of drugs and his homies, not by basketball. I remember the rap on him coming out of college was that he only played hard in nationally televised games. The rap on McCants was his questionable motor. The list goes on.
So you ask who I consider most likely to be a bust in this draft class. I'll just do some Internet research and make a list of all those top prospects who have some questions written by someone about their motor. The ones least likely to become busts are those who are regarded as having both a high level of talent and a high-revving motor.

I am in the boat that Kris Dunn will be a bust I posted it a long time ago but if you look at the scouting reports of Johnny Flynn and Dunn they are almost identical (minus the height what is a big deal) I just don't like none shooting PG who are not that good at creating for others in college he is no ricky in the playmaking department.
We will see but I am down on Dunn

This is tough because of where players might go. I think Chriss and Bender certainly have bust potential, but if they land on the right team I think that is not nearly as likely.

I am with you. I see a backup PG in him. Not a sta

Except for the size difference, kek, I think Flynn is a very good parallel for Dunn. Both were high character guys and lock-down defenders, good distributors but poor shooters. But Flynn put up 13.5 and 4.4 his rookie year. Would we call Dunn a bust if he did that?
My choice in the Top 10 is definitely Chriss.

Great post. One nitpick. If Rider is a bust than D-Will is more so. At least Rider was highly productive for a few years.
