Would you trade Wiggins for Butler straight up (poll)
Rumors are that Wig and #5 is what the Bulls need for Butler, and I think none of us would do that. But what if the draft pick is removed (unlikely)...do you trade Wiggins for Butler? Yes or no, and why.

Voted No. And I think that will be almost universal.
I think I've seen enough of Wiggins to want to see what he can do with a new coach with a solid track record like Thibodeau before I gave up on a guy with so much potential.
Basically, I'm not completely against the trade... just for right now.

You have been a loose canon, lately, LST...

I voted no as well. Three reasons: First, Wiggins has the potential to become better than Butler and, like Abe, I want to see what he can do under a great coach like Thibs. Second, Butler is as good as he'll ever be and will start to decline in a few years while Wiggins is on the incline and should peak at the same time as our other core pieces, KAT and LaVine. Third, Wiggins is an iron man when it comes to games/minutes while Butler is just the opposite, playing more than 67 games in only one of his five seasons.

To be fair, do we know for certain that Butler has plateaued? He's had two really good seasons. His three point shooting regressed some, but he improved apg by 1.5 up to 4.8 this season. And he's only 26. Maybe this is all he can do and he's hit the ceiling. I dunno... I just dunno how anybody knows either way.

Definitely had to pause....but only for about two seconds. Wiggins may never quite become the all-around individual/team defender that Butler is, but I do think he will become a much more potent offensive force and the gap on defense will narrow to an acceptable level. It took Butler multiple years of college + 4 years in the pros to develop his offensive chops. He's not going to get much better at this point. Meanwhile, Wiggins has had one year of college plus 2 years as a pro and he is already nearly at Butler's level offensively. Add the age and durability variables into the equation and it becomes a pretty easy choice.

Good point, Abe. We don't know for sure whether Butler has plateaued. But I think he's already squeezed everything out of his abilities that he can. I actually think he'll start to declined in the next couple years, but that's a hunch. More likely he'll plateau at his current level for the next 4 years or so.

Well, we don't know for sure, but if you look over the history of great wings, their offensive output typically peaks somewhere in the 23-27 age range. In other words, sure, Butler could improve a bit, but realistically we shouldn't count on it.

Voted no. I get the point regarding a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush. So many players with high ceilings never live up to the top billing. But isn't Wig one guy you can be extremely excited about and have reasonable expectations that he is going to be great? He's already a rookie of the year and averaged over 20 points as a 20-21 year old. I think you can easily justify his potential is a risk worth taking. Together with Towns you have two guys that I think can turn into our version of Westbrook and Durant. I'd hate to give up on that right now.

Not interested in dealing Wiggins for Butler, or Wiggins for most players, actually. Wiggins should turn out better than Butler, and that's not a jab at Butler.
