Offseason Beyond the #1 Pick - What Needs to Happen

I am for either of the PG options. We need a bettet back up plan for Ricky moving forward.

That's a good list of options and to me all of them could be good. Someone has said a couple times in various threads that Flip as a GM needs to maximize his assets. I agree with that and this list shows some options to do that but with the draft there is obvious uncertainty of who will be available when and for the players on the roster or Bjelica what are their value? We don't know. What vet PGs will be available? There will be some but who will get paid who will come here and who will fit well? It will be interesting to see what Flip does to shape this roster this summer but as this list shows there seems to be plenty of opportunities to make some moves.

The thing I would like to see the most is moving Bjelica and whatever else is needed to get back into the middle of the first round. Suppose it just takes Bjelica and #31? That would be great value for us and hopefully provide the backup PG needed to protect against Ricky missing time.

The two moves I most want to see are 1) hiring a new coach and 2) making a good pick at 31.

The coach is the most important move, and unfortunately, not likely to happen soon enough for my taste. I like Flip and recognize that he has been reasonably successful as a coach in the past, but as so many have pointed out here, he hasn't adapted well to the new game. Plus, I want my PBO and coach to be different guys. Finally, I've seen the positive impact a new coach can bring in creating a turnaround...this year's Twins are a great example, as were the Suns 2 years ago.

The first pick of the second round is a terrific asset to hold. Teams that don't want to pick up a guaranteed contract really value this pick. It's how we were able to draft a guy who was reputed to have first round talent...Nikola Pekovic. While I wouldn't be opposed to Flip trading this pick if he could get great value, I also think Flip can draft for need with this pick and that there may be good players available. If he takes a big man at #1, 31 might be a good place to target a competent PG.

I selected the moves I thought would most likely happen:

1.) Trade Bennett. I like AB and would love it if he came back and was the guy we all hoped he'd be as a former #1 overall pick. But my gut is telling me he will be dealt to open up minutes for Payne and whomever we draft this year.

2.) Trade Bejelica. He's coming off a Euro MVP season. He's 27. His value will never be higher.

3.) Sign a vet PG. I see our second unit full of young guys (Bazz, Payne, Dieng, LaVine). They'll want to mix in some vets. And hopefully make LaVine a seldom used 3rd option at PG.

4.) Bundle picks/players to move up in draft. There are only so many roster spots. It's pointless to carry another GR3 for a season. If there is another player in this draft (beyond their #1 pick), that they think will fit/play - bundle what we need to and go get him.

How about trading K-mart and Pek as moves 1A and 1B.

Anybody else surprised that "trade Budinger" is in the lead for a move that we need to make? I'm not opposed to moving Bud if he can bring something of value in return, because if our roster is healthy, he shouldn't see the court much. But I think he is a good example of someone who has more value to us than other teams. We saw flashes of what Bud can do at the end of last year. I suspect other teams see an oft-injured guy with mediocre stats. I don't mind keeping him as a 11-15th guy.

I'm in same boat as you LST. I don't see harm in carrying Bud for another year. Obviously they should always be ready to deal any player if the price is right. But no point in dumping functional guys just to dump them.

I erred in not having a trade Martin selection. Trading Pek is not feasible at this point.
