Draft Guys
I don't follow college basketball at all, so I'm sure most on here have much better insight perspective on evaluating the upcoming draft than me. So here's my question to all you experts: How big is the drop off from Okafor/Towns to Stien/Porzingis? Can someone give me NBA comps I can relate them too? Is this the draft where it really doesn't matter that we finally got the #1 overall since the drop off in talent isn't that great for like the top 6 or 7 guys? From reading reports (here and elsewhere), it seems like a guy could make a good case for a bunch of different guys. I realize some guys are ranked ahead of others. But I don't know how big the gap is supposed to be between some of these guys.

Re: Draft Guys
I'm not an expert Carlos, but I'm a casual follower of college ball and have been tracking the scouting stuff on these guys pretty closely.
I personally think there is a solid chance that the best player from this draft will indeed come from someone taken other than 1 or 2. Russell and Hezonja especially are two guys to keep an eye on long term. They have the potential to be elite perimeter shooters and playmakers in this league.
That being said, I also think Towns could be the best player long term, but it's just not very clearcut to me. So in that case, tie goes to the big. We have to go big with our slot.

If I had to bet Towns/Okafor or the field to be the best player out of this draft I would pick the field. No doubt in my mind it will not be one of the bigs. It is just hard to figure out who and my pick would be Russell.

I agree with this. To me Russell is the best player in this draft.
Re: Draft Guys
Carlos I am not bigtime expert but I think the top 3 are young talented productive guys as freshman that seem destined to at least be good and could be really good players. They all have traits that project well into the next level and all have some question marks. The next tier of guys have more questions like Prozingis Mudiay for sure. They are young with talent and have some likely jaw dropping physical talents but they have farther to go and are a bigger risk. As for a guy like WCS he is a nice player because of his defense but even to me there is some questions about his defense against true centers plus his offense isn't too good and his rebounding is underwhelming. Having a near 7' guy that can switch out on anyone and defend all over the floor is tantalizing and he could get better at some of his weakness. A guy like Winslow I really like a lot. If we had gotten stuck at #4 it wouldn't have been the end of the world but Towns is to me almost exactly the type of player this team needs and he is pretty talented. That's how I see it anyway.

Re: Draft Guys
I think this will be a pretty exciting draft to follow in that there doesn't appear to be a clear cut consensus of who will go where. Early on it was Okafor. Then it switched to Towns/Okafor. Now other guys i.e. Russell are getting mentioned. It's sort of like (everyone brace for this) the 2013 draft where Anthony Bennett became the #1 overall. Here was a consensus Mock Draft for reference to see how much uncertainty there was at that time too: http://www.nba.com/news/2013-consensus-mock-draft/
Re: Draft Guys
That fear is legit in my opinion. Remember when Wesley Johnson was rated a better pick than Cousins and Paul George?
This is actually an argument for Porkchop's position (forget what thread he posted in) that known production trumps potential. If that's the case, we take Okafor, period. He is a 20/10 guy. It is not anywhere near as certain what Russel/Towns will be.

Carlos. First of all, is that a Jim Rome or Anthony Weiner with a mustache avatar?
Secondly, I would argue that if you look at the history of drafts, the top 10 in hindsight is pretty scattered if you were to review the draft 5 years later. So I think a Porzingas or Kaminsky could be a nice idea if we wanted to move back into the first.
Thirdly, would you trade our 36th and 37th picks for a vet? Another shooter perhaps?

Too bad the Cavs didn't draft Noel instead of Bennett. That would have made that trade even better.

It could be very interesting but i think the top 3 are pretty much a lock and after that yes it gets very interesting. You could see some moving around and guys dropping.
Wes Johnson was never a better prospect than Cousins except you didn't know what Cousins brain had going on in there. Maybe nobody still does. Lol I said back then that Cousins was the best prospect in the entire draft and I had to leave the dicision to pick or pass on him to the people know had access to much more information than I did. I liked Wes Johnson he seemed perfect for what we needed at the time. There was a lot of Paul George conversations back then and some posters really nailed it that he was going to be a good player. They did away me. It's time for the wolves to nail a couple more picks and become a good team again. I have some legit confidence in Flip since he has had some actual success so far.
