What Flip Won't and Will Do this Summer

Post by Lipoli390 »

Hard to predict exactly who Flip will take with the first pick in this year's draft or what other moves he'll make this summer.

But here's what I'm certain he WON'Tdo and you can take these to the bank:

1. He won't use our top pick on anyone other than Towns, Okafor or Russell.
2. He won't trade Wiggins, LaVine, or Rubio.
3. He won't hire a new head coach.
4. He won't draft and keep two players with the # 30 and 36 picks we have in the draft.

Here's what I think Flip WILL do:

1. He will sign Garnett to a 1-year deal with a player option for year 2.
2. He will draft Towns with the top pick
3. He will sign a vet free agent PG, but I won't venture a guess on who.
4. He will trade Budinger either alone or as part of a package.
5. He will trade the rights to Bjelica either alone or as part of a package.

I have a feeling that if Thibs sits out a year, he will be hired in a year to coach this team.

Also if he trades Bjelica, he better have something good coming in to play for the PF position. He can't afford to move him and rely on Bennett and/or Payne.

Nice work Lip. I love #4 and #5 in your "will do's".

The one thing I don't necessarily think we need is a vet PG. I'm more than happy with adding another young PG. I don't feel the need to add veterans at this point.

One thing I forgot to mention about yesterday's Funkadelic: Flip said he has not received one call yet from anyone inquiring about the #1 pick.

I guarantee that Flip will never hire Thibs. Take that to the bank as well.

I like to hear that, but I'm curious as to why you feel so strongly on it.

Cool - I'm fine with bringing in a vet PG, provided it's the right one -- someone who can shoot. But like you, I'd prefer someone young.

I listened to the Funkadelic recording this morning. He was pretty coy about everything. But I think it was interesting he hasn't receive even one call about acquiring our top pick.

So Flip sides with the Bulls FO then.

Flip is offensive-minded and won't hire someone he referred to yesterday as "offensively challenged." He also referred to Thibs overplaying his young guys. Flip said he was just repeating what others have said about Thibs, but that was a pretty transparent, passive-aggressive way of communicating his own sentiments. He said nothing to refute or challenge that assessment of Thibs. Thibs is also a very strong, independent personality and I don't think that's the sort of coach Flip wants. Not that Flip wants a yes man, but I think he wants someone who he can work with easily - more of a company guy. I've talked with Flip at length though never about Thibs. I'm convinced that Thibs just isn't Flip's sort of guy to be his head coach even though he respects him.

Flip and I are on exactly the same page then when it comes to Thibs. That Flip is really a bright guy! :d

When Flip starts caring about defense, that's when our group of young guys can be great. Until then, we're just a lot of potential on one team.

Oh, by the way, if Flip insists on running his 1960s offense, then he too is offensively challenged.
