What does our team look like for next year?

Post by Hicks123 [enjin:6700838] »

Obviously, there are many moves that need to happen, but here is what I would like to see:

Draft - Towns

FA#1 - (SF) DeMarre Carroll - I am typically the very anti-midlevel guy. That being said, this is the only guy I would think about for that amount. He upgrades this team in 2 of our major weakness areas as a defender and 3 point shooter. He has worked his way into a solid NBA starter. He is truthfully what everyone hoped Brewer would become as a player. Hard nosed 3 & D guy. And like Brew, he is fun to watch.

FA#2 - (PF) KG or NB - I don't want KG, but I have resigned to the fact that he will be on the team....so I am including him. Would rather see them invest in NB.

FA#3 - (PG) - Jeremy Lin

Find a way to trade Bennett or Payne for future pick.

Leaves us with following:
C: Pek - Dieng
PF: Towns - KG/NB - Bennett/Payne
SF: Carroll - Muhammad - Bud
SG: Wiggins - Martin
PG: Rubio - Lavine - Lin

Nice mix IMO.

The way Carroll has played he is going to get paid more than the MLE IMO

Carroll's going to get $10M a year or right around that mark. Not to mention I highly doubt we sign a free agent to play wing for us. We need more help in the frontcourt.

I would still like the Wolves to go after Wilson Chandler. Combo of him and Muhammed, plus Budinger would be a solid rotation at SF.

I love Carroll and virtually every team would like to sign Carroll. And he'll definitely command at least 10Million, probably more as I think there would be a bidding war for him. I would give us less than 1% chance of getting him as I think he'd rather play on a contending team over a rebuilding team and I don't see any particular reason he'd want to be in Minnesota.

I think the team will look like this:

PG: Rubio, Lavine. FA
SG: Martin, Lavine, Budinger
SF: Wiggins, Shabazz,Hummell
PF: KG,Payne, Bennett
C: Pek, Towns, Dieng

Not sure what will happen with seconds and Bjelcia. I see them getting traded for future assists. I would be fine with going after euro stashes or trading Bjelica for future first. I would love to get Jameer Nelson or Lin as a FA backup PG.

I would love to see. See us draft Towns and Porzingis. I would trade any not named Wiggin or LaVine to make this happen. If you get Prozingis I would try and get Guillermo Hernangomez who is Porzingis teammate who looks pretty good.

I'm being nitpicky here, bleed, but whoever we draft between Towns and Okafor WILL start. That's pretty much a given.

First Unit
C- Towns
PF- Garnett
SF- Wiggins
SG- Martin
PG- Rubio
Second Unit
C- Dieng
PF- Payne
SF- Muhammed
SG- LaVine
PG- Jones

I don't see us signing anybody, and I think we may be able to dump Pek for zero return. I also see us packaging our two high seconds and nabbing a backup PG in the first.

Cam, I agree that typically #1 picks are in the starting lineup, but I don't know that it is a given this year. I have the rose-colored glasses on with respect to Pek, and I think he will be our starting center on opening night, regardless of who Flip picks. I also think he will want to continue to start and finish games with KG at PF. I'm hoping that Flip sees the light and drafts KAT, and if so, I see him sharing the PF minutes with KG...Garnett starts and plays his 20, and Towns (and maybe others, if they can step up) take the rest.

With the Wolves taking Towns, I'd expect Towns/Garnett in the starting lineup and perhaps a Pekovic/Dieng combo off the bench, that's if everyone is healthy.
