Small Forward Targets

Post by Lipoli390 »

Fair to say that most of us on this board have focused on three potential SF acquisitions -- Turner, Jeff Green and Trevor Ariza. Interestingly, all three had terrific games tonight. I wonder whether any of these three can be had in exchange for Williams, Shved and our second round pick next season. If so, Flip should jump on it. My order of preference would be Green, Turner and Ariza.

If the basketball gods love Sota (which they haven't the last decade), they'd allow us to make a trade for Green or Turner using D-Will and Shved. For Green I'd even throw in a protected first rounder if they gave us a second rounder back or something like that. Green's locked up through 2016 at a decent price. Rubio/Martin/Green/Love/Pek is a title contending lineup imo.

I'm with you cam. I would trade dw,shved and a 1st for green too. Green would fit perfectly with love/Rubio/pek/Martin.

After watching our first game, 1 thing is clear and that's we need athletic wings on the team. We need someone to throw down alley oops. Brewer is nice on the break but he can't catch well and isn't a guy who Rubio can alleyoop to.

Hey guys.......offering our 9th and 10th best players, along with a late teens draft pick is probably not enough incentive to get a team to trade one of their top 3 players (which turner, green, and ariza are on their respective teams)

1. Boston is building around Green. His career is back on an upward arc. He's thriving. The Wolves have NO CHANCE to land him, unless picks and other viable pieces are included. Even then it's a long shot.

2. Evan Turner. SOME people around the old board floated the Turner for Williams swap years ago. It was obvious from the first day that Williams is a bad fit in MN. Is it because he sucks? Not necessarily. He plays behind the team's best player. Simple as that. I never felt Philly would do an even trade... Turner actually was a rotation guy for a playoff team. But, I would have jumped at it... even if Turner has his own warts.

3. Trevor Ariza. He is NOT one of Washington's top 3 players. He's on his 6th team in 10 seasons. You know what you're getting with him... and it's NOT 28 ppg and 10 reb. He's a 10/5/3/1.5 guy with middling efficiency. He's very consistent in his inconsistency. Could he help? Sure. But at what price? Is he even needed with Brewer here offering his own brand of inefficient SF play?

Abe, good post. Ariza is not the answer. The other 2 certainly offer some long-term payoff for this team.

Some good points Abe. Here are some thoughts in response.

1. Whether the Celtics plan to build around Green depends on whether they are rebuilding or re-tooling. If they're simply re-tooling, then I think you're right. The key barometer of Boston's intent is Rondo. If the the Celtics keep the nearly 28 year old Rondo, then it's unlikely they'd trade the 27 year old Green. But if the Celtics plan to truly rebuild (i.e., start over), then keeping a good but not great 27 year old at over $9 million a year doesn't make much sense. In my mind the more pertinent question is whether the Wolves have the assets to get Green. My sense is we don't - Primarily because Kahn traded away our 2013 first round pick to get the Suns to take Wes Jounson off our payroll the Wolves could sign AK47 after already committing $5 million to Brandon Roy.

2. I agree with your take on Turner. I still think we might be able to get hm in exchange for Williams and Shabazz. Don't know whether we could get him for
Williams and Shved.

3. Trevor is a better defender than Brewer and a better three-pont shooter. But he's definitely not as good as his numbers last night.

Cam -- I'm not sure, but I don't think we can trade our 2014 first rounder because of the fact that Kahn traded our 2013 first round pick. I think there's a rule that prohibits trading first rounders in back to back years.

I think we could get Green, but we would likely have to take Courtney's with him.

I scoffed at Green's deal when it was announced. It's looking like a decent deal by the day. That's a team that's paying Humphries $12M and Wallace more than $10M.

The Celtics will trade Rondo soon enough. I can't fathom how else that could end. I don't see how the surly, mercurial PG can be excited about playing on that team when he returns. It's hard for players who've known almost only success to suddenly play their prime years for a lottery team.

I guess the only thing that Boston could be banking on... Super high draft pick + Rondo + a rejuvenated Green = Playoffs in the East?
