I know Adelman is rippable for many things. But how many other coaches in the NBA get ripped for ATROCIOUS shooting from a player?

In EVERY other situation, isn't the onus put on the player to improve? These are professionals... not high school kids. They put in the time and effort, they get the rewards. Coaches aren't there to babysit and teach fundamentals that should have been learned before these guys became pro... even if they were only 13 at the time.

You are absolutely right to blame Ricky for the majority of his shooting woes. I would completely agree with you if kids weren't coming into the pros so young. Player development is completely part of an NBA coaches responsibility now in a way that may not have existed when Adelman had his best years. Which is why I think certain types of coaches are being targeted and being successful in the NBA now (young, untested motivators, Brad Stevens, Mark Jackson, Jason Kidd). It is like a college hybrid where teaching, personality and systems matter equally. Ricky developed bad habits by being naturally gifted very young. He needs to be coached out of those habits like a child unfortunately. Coaches have a new role now in the NBA and it is only going to increase with the majority of players drafted being one and dones.

I think that you would be totally right if kids weren't coming into the pros so young. Player development is completely part of an NBA coaches responsibility now in a way that may not have existed when Adelman had his best years. 1) They're not teaching guys how to shoot (the very basics). These are grown men getting paid millions. It's a man's game. Ricky is Year 3... time to be a man.
2) Rubio's been in the pros since he was a teenager. He shouldn't be getting the same lessons that high school kids get.
3) We both know Ricky Rubio is the ONLY guy who would get this pass. Why doesn't Barea get a pass for being a bad passer? Why doesn't Brewer get a pass for reaching too much? Moute for sucking balls on offense? Why do you blame Adelman for Rubio... but not for the foibles of everybody else? And why blame other players for not developing (all of us do that) but not put the onus of stagnant development on Rubio himself?

I am not giving Rubio a pass. I am saying he needs help, he always did. And the team should be doing everything possible to give him that coaching. I wish he was a good shooter. He is not. He needs coaching.

Good article and good point on rubio "aiming" his shot at the rim instead of stroking it.

His shot looks flat and his release and stroke seems to change from shot to shot precisely because he is aiming and willing it to go in instead of having a natural stroke and touch.

Agree that he needs to develop a floater, luke ridnour had a really nice floater and i was hoping rubio would have learned from luke when he was here.

How long is the list of players that came into the league needing developmental coaching and then turned out to be great becuz of it? Some players are great when they arrive in the league and continue to be. Some arrive great and cant make the transition to continue it. I cant think of one player that took some time off from being.a great player to get further development and then got great again. U either are or arent. If u arent then u better find a niche. Looks like Rickys niche will be playing decent defense and avg 7-8 rebs. No shame in that.

Abe, I think everybody is holding Rubio accountable for his poor shooting, including himself. He's not getting a pass at all, if anything his bad shooting is being magnified by the press and fans that were hoping he would be some kind of savior by this point.

That being said, he has considerable natural talents in other areas that give people hope that IF he can improve his offensive game, he can be very VERY good in this league, and possibly even great. But to reach that potential he needs to be pushed, not benched. Force him to do the things he is not comfortable with. Continue to tell him to be aggressive.
