What did Kahn do for this team?
What did Kahn do for this team?
I was just thinking this morning about how little impact Kahn had/has on this current roster or at least the main pieces. When all healthy the 9 man rotation look how little Kahn did.
Rubio (Kahn, Obvious pick, even though he made a great trade)
Matin (Flip)
Brewer (Flip)
Love (Mchale)
Pek (Mchale)
Bench
Barea (Kahn)
Bud (Kahn)
Turiaf (Flip)
Cunningham (Kahn)
So in our nine man rotation, only 4 of nine are from Khan, only one starter. One of the big weaknesses of this team is our bench and three of the four are from Khan (side note though I like barea and I think Cunningham will turn it around in limited minutes). Its just amazing to me how little Kahn did in his time here.

Kekgeek1, It's not just how little he did, it's how little he did with SO much opportunity. McHale started to clean up the mess he had created before departing, so by the time Kahn took over, he had quite a bit of flexibility and draft picks coming our way. And Kahn himself did a fairly good job retaining that cap flexibility and spinning out even more picks. But just think of the drafts Kahn oversaw where we had multiple picks. I think he burned through something like 10-15 draft picks in his tenure and we basically have Rubio to show for it. Most of the others were either busts, marginal contributors, stashed overseas never to be seen again, or traded for cash. Just an immense waste.....

Oh my god don't even get me started. Something like 6 relatively high first round picks in 3 or 4 years, a bunch of expiring contracts and cap space, and Al Jefferson's reasonable tradable contract. Ugh. Just ugh.

Mchale is a genius when compared to Kahn.

Kahn handled the Rubio situation from start to finish superbly. That is his one small saving grace with me. Other than that he hired a terrible coach, reached for a terrible draft pick, brought in bit players and projects that amounted to nothing, and always thought he was the smartest guy in the room. So basically, hopefully the door hit him on the arse on the way out...
Re: What did Kahn do for this team?
Kahn has done a lot of good things for the Wolves.
- His trade to land the 5th pick in his first draft and having Rubio fall to him could go down as one of the biggest draft steals in Wolves history (depending on how far Rubio develops). And drafting Rubio was just the beginning, he worked his butt off to get Rubio over here, in a Wolves uniform -- many pundits thought Rubio would NEVER play for the Wolves.
- Those same pundits thought Pek would never wear a Wolves uniform. Kahn didn't draft him, but he did get him over here to play for the Wolves.
- Kahn gets ripped for handling Love, but he did choose to keep Love, and signed him to an extension before the end of Love's rookie deal. While he can be ripped for how he handled it, and only securing 3 years, he did get a deal done.
- And another terrific move Kahn made was hiring Adelman. Nobody thought Kahn could secure a coach of Adelman's stature to replace Rambis, but he got it done.
So the majority of the Wolves core - Rubio, Pek, Love and Adelman - Kahn deserves kudos. And he has had a handful of other good moves. But the number of bad moves, or moves that just didn't pan out, have completely held this team back. Flip did a tremendous job of keeping the good stuff and adding to it (KMart, Brewer and Turiaf).
So Kahn deserves to be ripped, but much of the Wolves success this year is a result of pieces Kahn put in place.

Kahn's claim to fame is sweet talking 2 overseas players into coming to the greatest pro basketball league in the world? For millions of dollars...sure hope my boss is as easily pleased as you at my next eval!

Ehh. The only successes I can really give him is Rubio and Adelman. Other than that, he fucked up. Yes, he got Pek to come over, but he wasn't the one that drafted him. I put more credit to McHale for that one. Kahn had nothing to do with Love other than pissing him off by not giving him five years when he actually wanted it. Hopefully that doesn't bite us in the ass.
