Kahn Revisited

Most of us were highly critical of Kahn towards the end of his tenure here. But interestingly he made two moves that are arguably more important to whatever success Flip had this summer than anything Flip did. I'm referring to drafting Rubio and hiring Adelman. I heard Brewer interviewed on the radio this morning. When asked his main reason for wanting to sign here, he answered that it was The fact that Adelman is our head coach. Kevin Martin gave two reasons for choosing e Wolves over other possibilities -- Adelman and Rubio. Budinger gave two main reasons for turning down more money to re-sign here -- Adelman and Rubio.

I think Flip feels really good about what he's accomplished this summer. That's fair. But he should probably send Kahn a box of chocolates and a thank-you card. :).

I'm sure Flip would have loved to have Paul George in his lineup right now though lol. He could have spend K-Mart's money elsewhere. He can thank Kahn for that one.

I know it's hindsight to say that, though. I also don't look down at Kahn as much as most do. I think Flip's going to do much better with the team than Kahn did.

I agree lip. I consider kahn to be an average gm,not good but not bad either. There are a lot worst gms out there and a lot more blown picks and unreasonable contracts.

Getting rubio and adelam were excellent moves

I hope flip could build on that

See, on different teams he would be a great fit, but he would need a team not entering a rebuilding mode. He is a great contract guy, but a horrible basketball mind. Shame Wolves were at a bad stage.

Honestly, sometimes players can make coaches and even GM's look good. If Kahn would've got Curry or George, the likelihood of us succeeding and Kahn still being here would be pretty good. Things happen for a reason and although I'm not happy we don't have Curry or George, I'm happy we don't have Kahn as our GM anymore.

Hiring Adelman was a good call, and I feel pretty confident that if Adelman still wanted Kahn around, that Kahn would still be around. Overall, Kahn's drafting was pretty bad. I mean, when you have so many high picks, does getting 1 starter of all those really count as any degree of success?

If we're doing to opposite of blaming past administrations then the thanks needs to go all the way back McHale as Love and Pek were his gifts to Khan.

I don't think anybody with more than a pea for a brain would argue that the two of them, McHale and Khan, brought nothing of value to the Wolves. You can rightly question if that value was enough, but not that the value didn't exist.

Khan was gambler, all his moves were high risk and possibly high reward attempts, thanks to him we have Rubio here as no other GM in league would push this hard to get him, on the other hand now we need different guy in charge, as gambles like Roy 5mil per are not what playoff team should even think about

Sure Kahn made some good moves - drafting Ricky and hiring Adelman. But the list of bad moves is a helluva lot longer than the good ones and ultimately stagnated this franchise for his entire reign. His drafting was terrible, so terrible that he had to trade away a 1st to get rid of Wes Johnsons contract. Add the Darko signing (then using the amnesty to get rid of him) and all the others disasters.
Kahn was/is a good business man, but he is not an NBA talent assesor. He was good at managing the cap, but bad at evaluating talent.
