Trade Thread 2014-15 in Season

Post by khans2k5 [enjin:6608728] »

I thought I'd start a trade thread to cover the rest of this season since there hasn't been too much talk in other threads yet discussing potential trades. I think we have to start looking to move some people. We are 4-12 with a historically bad defense.

A trade I thought of while looking through the rumor mill on ESPN would be Bud for Bismack Biyombo straight up. They desperately lack 3 point shooting and that is the only thing Bud is doing reasonably well at this point. We lack size and rim protection and while Biyombo isn't a huge guy, I think he is a reasonable option to come off the bench and get rebounds and blocks for our depleted front court. Biyombo is an expiring so we wouldn't have to deal with Bud's player option next year which at this point I think is his only shot to make more than the league minimum with the way he is playing. Both of their stocks are pretty low right now so I think it is a fair swap.

I also would look to deal Thad towards the trade deadline as I don't think he is going to stick around and I don't want him to stick around. He is a combo forward best suited to come off the bench because his lack of rebounding and 3 point shooting (he's dropped 10% from behind the arc since the beginning of the year signaling a return to the norm of around 34% when the volume is there) make him difficult to play big minutes at either the 3 or 4 and be a successful team. We don't have the personnel to cover up his deficiencies on the boards or behind the arc to make him a worthwhile piece long-term. I wish there was a way to get him to Houston for Jones or Motiejunas so we get another young piece and they get a vet who fits next to Dwight and can be the most successful in his sort of glue guy role. I think he deserves a better team and I would rather use him to get another future piece because he just doesn't fit with what we have surrounding him now.

Well I said I didn't want Dwill in our locker room because of his attitude and what it could do to the young guys so let go against everything I have said and lets offer the Hornets, Thad, Bud and 2 future seconds. For Lance and Vonleh/Zeller (don't care which)

MIN: Stephenson
CHA: Brewer, Budinger

Sorry, guys. I'm still a Stephenson supporter. Tons of talent and has a screw loose in his head (sound like any past Wolves?), but the desire to win is evident to me. Keep in mind he's still quite young (23 or 24), contributes in all stat categories and is very reasonably paid if you use his numbers from 2013. Numbers have slipped in Charlotte and I can think of three possible reasons why. 1) Feels like he needs to be the man since getting this new contract. 2) Playing with a ballhog at PG in Kemba Walker, resulting in lower efficiency and putting Lance back into an ISO mentality. 3) Perhaps the scheme doesn't suit him. It's rumored that Charlotte's coach is anti-Lance and wants him gone. Coach isn't even playing Lance heavy minutes in 4th quarters.

Anyways, he's certainly a guy I'd gamble on. We love Brewer on this board, but Stephenson can replicate everything he can do and that's on one of his bad days. Budinger's worthless in Minnesota, but Charlotte could use a floor stretcher and that's supposed to be Bud's strength. Basically what the Hornets get is a guy that they know will play with energy and get in transition with Kemba, MKG and Zeller. Also a sound professional to go along with some young players.

The money's about right at $9M. It also opens a roster spot for the Wolves. Keep in mind when Martin returns he could be a fine trade piece for any playoff team. Adding Stephenson, and perhaps seeing him return to his productive ways, gives us a nice chip in Martin since he'd become available.

Cam, I am with you 100% on that. Between him and Shabazz we would have some crazy good rebounding wings.

I would love to get Vonleh from them. I wonder if they would have interest in Young.

If we get Stephenson we run into the exact problem the Hornets are having now. Kemba/Stephenson/MKG can't shoot 3's at a good enough clip to stretch the defense at all thus making everyone's life more difficult on offense. While Wiggins is a better shooter than MKG, he doesn't really take many 3's even though he is hitting at a solid clip. Ricky also doesn't put up many attempts and he is a league average 3 pt shooter. They don't really shoot 3's and Stephenson is a career 31% 3pt shooter. Pek then has even less room than he does now because Stephenson is a huge downgrade from Martin's shooting prowess so there will be no reason to challenge the 3 point shot. I think Stephenson can be a valuable guy, but the team he goes to needs to have other guys who can hit 3's around him to give him room to work which he won't have here. It is a pretty clear issue for the Hornets offense and I don't see how we are really that much better suited for him when we barely stretch the floor to begin with. I could see him helping a lot during our current injury plague, but once we are full strength I see us with the same issues plaguing the Hornets which makes me believe he isn't a good fit here even though I think he can be a valuable player in the league.

Kahn, I think you are over looking how much better defensively we would be. Lowry and DeRozan get it done for the Raptors. I think we could get by just fine. Key would be getting some guys on the bench that can shoot.

This trade is after the season but interesting anyways.I saw a 76ers trade rumor somewhere last week, i forgot where, but it said that if they ended up with the number one pick in the draft that they would seriously consider drafting Okafor and then most likely trade Noel or Embiid. It looks like we will most likely be getting a top 5 pick hopefully the wolves win the lottery like I predicted before the season, but would you consider trading a 2-5 range pick plus probably GRIII or someone else for Embiid? Or if the wolves end up with the number one pick trade it for Embiid plus someone else?

Wiggins and Embiid together again!!

khans, your argument about floor spacing is certainly appreciated, but Stephenson's ability to create off the bounce and get to the rim is well worth throwing into the conversation. He's also an adept passer and we all know he's great on the glass. These are qualities that Martin just cannot compete with.

That's besides the point for me, though. Team fit regardless, does the incoming value exceed the outgoing value, and I believe it does. Stephenson for Brewer and Budinger would be solid for both teams.

To answer the question about trading away a top-5 pick... No. Hell no. I'll take Towns, Okafor, Mudiay or trade for a young All-Star (ie: Jrue Holiday for No. 6) before giving the pick away for a big man that has serious injury concerns in multiple areas. Keep in mind that back injuries linger too. Embiid will have that bite him in the ass in the future for sure, forget about him missing time right now.

Cam, If they wanted Young straight up for Stephenson would u do it?

We would certainly need to do some more roster moves, but they seem on on par for value.
