Flipper!

Post by mjs34 »

I was listening to Zgoda's post game video with Flip, and I still don't understand how Flip can be so clueless. He stated that Gorgi sat because he was jamming rebounders??

How can you sit Gorgi based on his rebounding but continue to give Young minutes?

Sjm, I think I know where Flip is coming from. Thad has never been a rebounder in his entire career, or even during college for that matter, so Flip doesn't expect him to rebound the basketball. But Gorgui is a pretty good rebounder, and was really getting pushed around last night. He was frustrating me too, and I was glad Flip called him out. Except for his 3 blocked shots, I thought it was Gorgui's worst game in a long time.

That is exactly the problem LST. Flip is calling out the young inexperienced guys, while giving the vets a free pass. Gorgi is making 2 mil while Young is making 9. Young's poor rebounding isn't because he can't, but because he makes no effort. If you don't hold the vets accountable, why would the younger guys give a shit?

We are trying to develop players with their mentors being lazy and effortless. I saw Wiggins pull a reach around late last night and give up defensive position. Wonder where that move came from.

I'm also disappointed in Flip's choice of vets and the slack he cuts them. Mo is a terrible defender, makes a lot of bone-head plays and is not what I'd consider an effort guy. Not my idea of a model for the young guys. Yet Flip cuts Mo a lot more slack than Zach.

The problem with Thad is that Flip traded for him to be our starting PF -- a role Thad is not up to. As mentioned, Thad has always been a poor rebounder and, not surprisingly, he's been terrible on the boards with us this season. In spite of his knack for steals, Thad is also a poor defender at the PF position. He repeatedly gets out-muscled on the defensive end. Whether he can defend well at the SF position is an open question. I'd much rather have another 1st round pick instead of this one season of mediocre to poor play we're getting out of Thad.

I was reading an article by Zach Harper, and he was predicting the wolves re-signing Young to a two year 25 mil deal in the off season. That scares the hell out of me, and unfortunately I think that isn't out of the question. Flip seems to over look all of Young's' faults, and there is no front office to have a differing opinion. Having Flip in both positions could really hurt the team in a situation such as this.

I'm curious as to what Thad has done to earn a raise from anyone. 9 million is already more than he has shown to be worth let alone 12.5 a year. I would be very discouraged if Flip gave him that kind of raise with the way he has played this year. He's just not a starting caliber 4 in the West.

I'll be shocked if Flip re-signs Thad to that sort of deal. Maybe 2 years, $12 million, but not $25 million. Flip can't be that daft!

No reason for Young to opt out for that kind of deal. Take his $9M or whatever he's signed for next year then sign a one year deal for $6M is better for Young leaving him free for the first year of the new TV contract money.

If we resign Thad Young I would have a hard time following this franchise any longer.

I agree. Therefor, more likely that Thad simply exercises his option.
