Cavs/Knicks/Thunder trade
Cavs/Knicks/Thunder trade
So I am wondering how everyone feels after the 3 way trade yesterday. Does it help the Wolves prospects going forward in the trade market?
I have a feeling it will help in the fact that the Thunder are interested in adding to their bench in exchange for 1st round picks. Sure they may end up being end of the round type, but those picks have value around the league.

I thought it was interesting the Cavs didn't get a big. That I felt it was a bad move for them.
The other thing for me was the Knicks got a jump on use on dumping contracts. I wonder if KMartin has enough value to dump Budinger on a team.

What was the official trade report? Too many rumors were going around when I heard about it last night. Reggie Jackson's involvement or not is huge in terms of who did well or not.
Regardless, I like what Cleveland did. Shumpert is exactly the type of 3/D guy they needed while Smith is going to fill in Waiters role almost exactly. They still need a big, though.
Oklahoma City essentially got Waiters for a low first. Not bad, but he's not someone I'd lean on if I was a title contender. They're hoping he can provide scoring for their bench unit, but if you remember, he wasn't too thrilled with the idea of coming off the bench in Cleveland. Not to mention there's only one basketball and Reggie Jackson should be the main ball-controller on that unit, but Waiters tends to have sticky fingers. We shall see.
New York got rid of Smith's player option for next year that was about $6M if I recall correctly. They'll have about $30M in cap space this off-season PLUS a top draft pick. The Knicks will bounce back quickly, in my opinion. Phil's trimming the fat right now.

Re: Cavs/Knicks/Thunder trade
It's a difficult trade to analyze, because it's made up of guys that the Knicks and Cavs desperately wanted to get rid of. Shumpert and Smith have been terrible this year, and Waiters was apparently a constant headache in the locker room. All three have some talent, so it wouldn't be beyond belief of one of them ends up helping their new team, but this trade was more about subtraction.
Many are surprised that the Cavs didn't get a big out of the deal, but reports are that they are going to try to turn the OkC pick into a big man.

That is the key to this. They might be able to do that with the exception they have and a pick. The Nuggets might bite on that.

Knicks just waived Dalembert. I think I might be disappointed if Flip doesn't claim him...

I would love to see this happen. We need a legit big who can board and block shots and dalembert is one. I dont put much hope into this happening though. Dalembert might prefer to play for a contender and that might make flip decide it wont be a wise move to claim him.

Don't you have to have cap space or an exception to claim him?
Re: Cavs/Knicks/Thunder trade
I had also wondered if Flip might claim Tarik Black off waivers, but I believe the Lakers had priority over the Wolves at that time...
Re: Cavs/Knicks/Thunder trade
Personally, I like this trade for the cavs. Shumpert, when healthy, is an ideal guy to start alongside kyrie and lebron at the 1-3 spots. He will be the d guy and thats what they need with lebron and kyrie. Marion can move back to the bench and bron moves back to his natural sf position. JR Smith can be their bench scorer. Im surprised the cavs didnt try to get dalembert. He would be a serviceable big they desperately need.
