Wiggins by Month
Here's Wiggins Per Game Averages by Month:
October 7.0 pts 3.5 reb 1.0 assts 0.0 blks
November 12.3 pts 3.8 reb 1.0 assts 0.5 blks
December 14.6 pts 4.1 reb 1.8 assts 0.6 blks
Not huge jumps, but it's nice to see a little improvement each month. It will be interesting to see what he can do with Rubio running the offense. He doesn't seem to get a lot of dunks yet, but I think that will change once Rubio is back.

CD, You are the best. Thanks for posting this. I like the trend. I wonder what his stats look like now that he is playing with Bazz in the starting lineup. I think that playing with someone aggressive helps him.

Love it!
Rookies seldom average 15 PPG, and that is where Drew is trending to...actually should be over that by end of season. He's exceeding my expectations for his rookie year.

Re: Wiggins by Month
October was only a couple games, so should probably be averaged in with November. Either way, nice to see improvement.
I'm also glad he's gotten to the line about once more in December than in November, although he needs to hit FTs at a better clip. And his 3 point shooting has come back down, just 33% in December. His 42% clip in November was probably getting our expectations a little too high, but it would definitely be nice to see him hit closer to 36, 37, or 38% from here on out.
My question is, what would you guys like to see out of him in the next month?
Part of me wants to say more steals and blocks, because he could be getting more of those. But I'd rather see him do two other things because I'm pretty confident those blocks and steals will eventually come more often. What I'd like to see in the next month is 1) score more efficiently by raising his FG% and PPS, and 2) score more consistently.
He can do #1 by eliminating some of those contested long 2s, trying to get to the line more, and working on his FTs, and it would be a bonus if he could do #2. It's nice to see a 27 point outburst from him because it shows flashes of what he could do, but it's disturbing to see him sandwich 5 point games in there because it legitimizes some of the questions about his motor. To me, I don't think we need him to be a 25 PPG guy (Shabbazz looks like he could do that actually!), because Wiggins brings so much more to the table defensively. But it would help our team so much if he could score a little more efficiently and consistently because I trust that he'll contribute defensively whereas Shabbazz really needs to score to justify his playing time more (by the way, how about Bazz's 3 point shooting lately!).

Re: Wiggins by Month
Drew - I was certain someone would point out that Oct. was only a couple games, but it what it is. The reality is his first couple games probably belong in their own bucket (along with the diapers he was probably wearing).
As to what I'd like to see next month...it has to be more efficiency as you noted. Advanced stats i.e. PER and Win Shares still don't reflect well on him. I'm hoping that Rubio can help him in that area by creating easy dunks/transition points vs. the long two point shots this team is infamous for taking.
I'm most curious to see what happens when Pek/Martin get back into the mix as well. Especially Martin....what happens to Wiggins/Bazz scoring at that point?

Does Martin really have much of a role here by the time he finally returns... if he does? The team is clearly in the run for a high lottery pick. Any misguided dreams of "competing" are long gone. And it's not like Martin is a great mentor for young guys. So why bring him back at all... unless it's to set the stage for trading him?
Do you really think Martin would raise a huge stink if he was asked to milk his injury even longer?

Re: Wiggins by Month
His minutes went up each month, so of course his volume stats have gone up.
As Drew mentioned, the key going forward is better efficiency. Fortunately, he's begun to trend higher of late after a lengthy slump.
He is also an anemic rebounder considering his length and athleticism. And we desperately need better rebounding as a team. There is no Kevin Love to blame for "stealing" rebounds from others.

That is generally true, but not a given. Scoring/rebounding/assists/blocks don't always follow proportionately to minutes played. But - along those lines....do coaches generally give more minutes to guys playing well or guys playing poorly? :-)

Coaches tend to give minutes to #1 picks they are trying to develop, especially in a year lost to injuries.

That will be interesting. I am guessing Bazz goes back to the bench. I am curious what happens to LaVine when Rubio gets back. I would love to see LaVine be the backup to Rubio and Bazz. Martin really throws things off though. I hope we can trade him to somebody in the West that wants to try and seperate themselves from the pack.
