For the love of God please do not get Josh Smith. He is an absolute brick layer on offense and just doesn't understand that he is a terrible jumpshooter. With no other real #1 offensive guy on the team, that would be a disaster. He is one of if not the worst contract in the league right now and it just started last year.

I agree... and disagree.

Josh Smith is not a bad player. In fact, he's a good player... especially IF he can be reached or at least put in the best situations to succeed. Detroit screwed up.

A couple years ago, Josh Smith was one of the 3 most effective players in the NBA within 10 feet of the hoop. He was among the bottom 3 outside 10 feet. Even though it was a contract year... he started shooting more shots outside that 10 feet area for some inexplicable reason.

Even more inexplicably, Detroit rewarded him for it with a 4 yr./$54M deal. They basically told him "Keep doing the dumb thing." Then they compounded it by putting him in positions on the court that made it even easier to shoot out there (playing him at SF).

IF somebody could get to Smith and convince him to use the 3 pointer as an occasional weapon and not a staple... he's a legit player. Remember, he was good enough to routinely be the best or 2nd best player on several playoff teams in Atlanta.

I would be leary of Josh Smith, but you would have to consider him. He would certainly benefit from playing with Rubio. His stock is down and he can be had for basically nothing. The question would be if you would rather pay him or 3 players that don't have nearly the talent.

Excellent post. He can really fill up a stat sheet in every way. That contract has only 3 years left now but I don't think the Pistons are going to just give him away so I don't think he is coming here.

I think they will let him got for shorter contracts. I would be willing to offer Shabazz as part of the deal for him. I would certainly discuss him with past coaches before making a move for him.

No to Josh Smith.

It appears that Flip continues to target Thad Young, and I am comfortable going into the season with Bennett, Young and whoever is left between Luc and Robbie. With all the youth on this year's roster, this is going to be a rebuilding year anyway, so I am not in favor of tying up a big portion of our payroll with a poor shooter like Smith. If the Bennett/Young pairing doesn't work out, there are plenty of interesting PF prospects in the lottery next year.

I've always lowkey liked Josh Smith, but he's an awful fit for this team, in my opinion. Give me Thaddeus Young and let's head into the season with something to prove. Highly hypothetical, but how awesome would it be if Flip got this team back to 40 wins.

I get the bad fit. I am just looking around seeing who else might be out there. I would be crazy happy if we won 40 games with a rookie being part of the reason.

0% chance. Kevin Martin is the teams best offensive weapon.
