What is up with everyone obsessing over GR3?
I get that the Hummel signing seemed to be a bad move and I think GR3 should be on this team before him, but seriously is it that big of a deal. I get that he is a late 1st round talent, but most late firsts don't make it. So what is his upside? I don't see where he fits at all here.

Bleed, I agree with you that signing Hummel was a bad move (which I thought would be part of the Cavs trade).
It seems that Barea is the odd man out there, and it`s a no brainer for us when we got Rubio, Williams and LaVine on our roster.
In my opinion Flip is waiting that the Fiba tournament will come to an end to make sure that Rubio is coming back healthy, and then will try to move Barea somewhere else and opening a roster spot for GR3.

I thought the Hummel signing was good. I think others agree and then there were a couple of vocal opponents of the deal.
As for GRIII, I think again there are a few folks with very vocal opinions and others with a more ambivalent view.

I have to side with q on this one, as I also liked the Hummel signing. Although he didn't show it last year, he is a very good outside shooter, and this club sorely needs outside shooting. GR3 is a terrific athlete, but he only made 34 jump shots last year. Think about that...34 outside shots all season! The Wolves are set with extraordinary athletes who can jump and are already long in SF's, and GR3 seems to be redundant. And beyond that, there is the issue with his motor and toughness. Yes, his highlight video is fun to watch with his explosive dunks, but he was invisible much of the time in games that I watched last year. I'm not writing him off because he is a great athlete, but I think GR3's pedigree and leaping ability make him a little overrated. Take a look at the accompanying draft profile video, and decide for yourself if GR3 will ever be a contributor on an NBA team.

Again, what this team needs is shooters, so I'm hoping that either Hummel or Heslip (or both) can lock up a place on this roster with a good showing in Mankato.

I really don't mind if Hummel makes the team. I remember seeing he was the best shooter in practice last year. I just don't get the love for GR3.

GRIII will be marginal NBA player at best. And yes, for some reason this board has an obsession with the 15th player on the roster. We talk more about GRIII than Gorgui Dieng.

Even if Hummel and/or Barea were to go away, GR3 will have a tough time gaining traction on this team. There is too much competition on the roster from the wing position. Flip wants the vets around so KMart, Brew and Bud will have their spot in the rotation. Then there are the young guys that have Flip's eyes in Wiggins and Shabazz. Thad will probably get minutes at the 3 against certain teams as well. The odds are just stacked against Glenn.

Wouldn't they be stacked against Hummel as well then, and wouldn't it be better for our top guys to be playing against a better defender in practice on a daily basis. At least GR3 has some upside to his game. Hummel is never going to become more athletic, and is likely to get worse considering his injury history. Hummel has shown zero ability to be an asset in any category including shooting.

Well yea the odds might be stacked against Hummel but no one seems to care how far he goes so I didn't think that really mattered. I even preceded my thoughts with, "Even if Hummel and/or Barea were to go away". . .

I agree with you sjm. In my opinion, two years from now, GR3 will have a better value than Barea or Hummel (who won`t be much better).
Also, GR3 moves great without the ball and I think it`s can be a perfect fit next to Rubio.
I think that GR3 will be a solid N.B.A. player and can be a solid defender. He can be the glue guy on the team and a good locker room teammate.
As I said before I prefer GR3 on my team over Barea and if necessary over Hummel.
