The lockout is coming people

Post by alexftbl8181 [enjin:6648741] »

Can we all please agree to not be brainwashed by the owners by thinking they're in the right?

2.5 Billion a year will cause some squabbles. I think you are right that they are already looking at their books to try and sell the story of how hard it is trying to do business in today's market. If it goes as far as a lockout I will be very disappointed though.

wishful thinking that there won't be a lockout. The players know they got screwed and are more vocal and organized as they've ever been. The owners are greedy and know that they've always won and they are way too stubborn to give in now.

Wouldn't the situation your describing point to a strike and not a lockout? I don't think the players got screwed, it is just give and take based on the economic cycles. The players are never getting back up to 57% of revenue, even if they canceled a season. But the owners will likely change how the cap is calculated and make more incentives to increase salary. I think both sides see the popularity of the NBA right now and will figure it out, with the owners making concessions on everything except the percentage of revenue.

I have also heard a lot of talk about a potential lockout, but I don't see it happening. The tripling of the dollars from the TV contract is news that will make all parties happy...it was certainly more than I was expecting. The public is not going to be sympathetic to either side's argument, and any kind of shortening of the season so soon after the last lockout could be very damaging to the NBA's brand, and there's too much money involved to risk that.

The typical fan is going to have a difficult time generating much sympathy for a bunch of 20 and 30 year olds averaging nearly $10 million a year for playing a game half of the year. And they're certainly not going to be sympathetic to the owners so soon after Donald Sterling sold the Clippers for $2 billion. Adam Silver has already shown an ability to get things done quickly and properly, and I think he will be very persuasive in explaining to both sides that a strike/lockout is not in their best interests.

Is this a satirical or facetious post?

1) Lockouts seem to be the first step in negotiating CBAs. Neither side even gets serious until the lockout begins.
2) The owners whipped the players badly last time with some dubious/shady/questionable accounting practices. Yet, the players took the heat by a significant share of the public... even posters on basketball forums who should know that it wasn't that cut and dried.
3) The players know all this and are already hinting at "getting even."
4) The owners will make more money. The players will make more money. The fans will get screwed. AGAIN. Yet again, we'll sit on the edge of our collective seats waiting for these people to share up hundreds of millions and even billions of dollars... while they purposely take the game of basketball away from the people who should come first ... the fans.

And yet, we'll be bickering, taking sides... even though we're too big of rubes to realize we're the actual losers in all of it.
