Draft hindsight

Post by mnhoops [enjin:11017401] »

So even though its more and more likely that all the events leading to the soon to be Love trade for Wiggins started prior to the draft it makes me believe that the Rubio/Lavine/Wiggins lineup is something that really intrigues Flip as there were a lot of about Adreian Payne being there at 14 and being a good fit to potentially replace love.

I'm personally interested to see Bennett play and work with Flip's staff before just being shipped out but knowing Wiggins would be here as high potential wing player would you still take Lavine or use that pick on someone like Payne or another big?

LaVine all the way. PF seems like a much easier position to fill than a wing or in LaVine's case a dynamic combo wing. I don't remember being that excited about any bigs in the range the Wolves were picking.

LaVine showed me a lot in SL...definitely seems like the right pick right now compared to Payne. Maybe
Payne might have given us more this season, but much more upside with Zach.

Since we are talking hindsight, does anyone think Cleveland called Flip prior to the draft and asked who he liked more (Wiggins or Parker)....? To be fair, both franchises have been extremely tight lipped throughout this entire process.

It's an interesting question, zig, and I have wondered too. But I think if that were the case, there would have been a deal on draft night. I don't think a Cavs/Wolves deal was going to happen until LeBron dictated that it had to. For that reason, I think Cleveland was drafting for themselves, and with TT and Bennett at PF, Wiggins was the better choice for them. Also, knowing that he needed to replace Love, don't you think Flip would have taken Parker if he owned the first pick?

Judging by the rest of the draft, no. If he wanted the safe pick that was a good fit, he wouldn't have taken LaVine.

Also if the return was #1 and Bennett Parker doesn't fit with Bennett right? This is fun stuff to think about

- According to Wolfson, Wiggins was No. 1 on Flip's board. LaVine was No. 7.

- Cleveland's front office was split in their decision. From a lot of things I've read, front office members wanted Jabari if they were going to keep the pick for themselves and Wiggins if they were going to deal it. Gilbert also pushed for Wiggins. Bingo bango.

- No way would I take Payne, or any other PF that was available, over LaVine. I said that pre-draft and I still feel the same way. To be honest, I probably would have taken Gary Harris there, but I love the home run swing in LaVine.

- Reports were out that said CLE did offer the No. 1 pick for Love pre-draft, but Love's camp made it known or leaked that he would not re-sign there, which killed the deal. Remember, this was before LeBron returned home.

- I wish I could go back and tell everyone we needed to take Giannis in 2013. He's proving me wrong every day. And he grew several more inches?! You gotta be kidding me.

- Remember the name Jarnell Stokes. He's gonna be a good player in this league.

Thanks for the tidbits cam. I remember reading that wolves and philly are two of the teams that would for sure take wiggins number 1 had we won the lottery.
