Why dont we want Waiters?
Just dont understand all the talk about Waiters to Philly so we can get Young. Why dont we keep Wiggins Waiters and Bennett? I really dont get why anyone would be excited about any of these draft picks that will most certainly be at the end of the first round. Nothing is likely to ever become of them. I say grab Wiggins Waiters and Bennett and call it a day. This kid put in 16 a game last year. He wants to shoot, Ricky doesnt want to shoot. Hes a great fit. Not only that, Cleveland wants to get rid of him. I dont get why we dont seem to be pushing for him in this deal.
If I am Flip I push for a deal of
Wiggins, Bennett, Waiters, Lucas, and a 1st for Love and Brewer
Salaries should work and we can flip the first and something else to Philly to try and land Young if we want. Have a feeling Waiters will be the Rondo of KG trade, the guy we should have got and didnt. I would deal Martin and that 1st to Philly for Young then.
Would run out a lineup of
Rubio/Williams
Waiters/Lavine
Wiggins/Muhammad
Young/Bennett
Pek/Dieng
As excited as I am about Lavine and his athleticism, he is so frail. Thats a much more athletic lineup that Rubio has at his disposal.

Re: Why dont we want Waiters?
I agree. I've been pretty vocal that if Waiters is on the table, we should keep him. It's just not a guaranteed that he is.
Re: Why dont we want Waiters?
I join both of you in preferring Waiters along with Wiggins and Bennett over a Thad Young package where Waiters goes to the Sixers. Let's hope that happens. But I'll be fine with a Thad Young package, provided that we get both Wiggins and Bennett along with either the Miami or Memphis pick.
Re: Why dont we want Waiters?
I just don't think Waiters is on the table. Sometimes you have to consider what the other team's needs are, and the assets they have to address those needs. I don't think they can afford to lose Waiters.

Re: Why dont we want Waiters?
I suspect that Tim may be right...that the Cavs are willing to give up Wiggins, Bennett and a pick, but at least for now are holding firm on Waiters. And I hope Flip is trying to unload a player or a contract in order to include Waiters in the deal. It's another "who is going to blink first" situation like we discussed weeks ago with Wiggins, and it appears that Flip won that showdown (admittedly with some help from LeBron). Ultimately I don't think either side lets this deal fall apart over Waiters, so both sides feel comfortable not giving in during the 30-day waiting period. The showdown begins again in a couple weeks, albeit not at the same level as the Wiggins showdown. If LeBron can be persuasive with his new management team, Flip has a good chance of winning this one too.

I want Wiggins and Waiters and then they can pick if they want to give us TT or Bennett. I see this like taking Telfair over Rondo 2.0.

Re: Why dont we want Waiters?
I'm all for it if we can still get a starting PF, but I'd much rather have LaVine at SG and a guy like Young at PF, then Waiters and Bennett
If Cleveland is trading Waiters would they want Martin back?
Would Philly take MEM or MIA 1sts plus 2 of Brewer/Barea/Budinger for Young?
I'm all for a lineup of
Rubio/Mo
Waiters/LaVine
Wiggins/Bazz
Young/Bennett
Pek/Dieng
But I don't know if it's realistic. That looks like a playoff contending team to me

Actually PHI needs salary. They're 31 mil under the cap! why not see if they'll take Barea, Shved, Budinger, and Luc/Brewer plus a first for Young. How else are they going to get to the min? This'll help them tank too.

We don't want Waiters because he played at Syracuse (see J. Flynn and W. Johnson). And he's a ball hog.

Re: Why dont we want Waiters?
I don't want Waiters because I think he is overrated and he thinks too highly of himself (shown to me by his comment that he's not a willing bench player). If we get Rubio on an extension, Lavine's path to success then becomes our future SG. With Waiters being young and also due an extension soon, I don't see how that fits.
If he would be willing to be our sixth man scoring punch off the bench I would be all for him, but he wants to start and I would only want him as a starter until Lavine physically matures. I also think Wiggins is setup to play some SG this year as he lacks the strength to be a full-time 3. Brewer can play the 2 between Irving and Lebron and they will more than likely get Allen at the minimum to play the 2 if they get Love. Those two can man the position just fine and they won't need Waiters. I would rather trade Waiters to Philly for Young because we then get a starting PF and Bennett gets to play his best role as scoring big off the bench who doesn't need to be a great defender to contribute in games. I think Lavine is the real deal and Flip's kid is going to coach him up like he did Wall and Beal to be a very good player. I would rather have a placeholder like Martin in front of him who can start or come off the bench and give you the same production than a young guy who's going to make you choose him or Lavine to keep when you try to relegate him to the bench.
