My Thoughts on Love
It sucks that we haven't been able to develop as a team while Love has been here. But as much as I would hate to see him go, a couple things make it palatable for me. First and foremost, we haven't been able to become a playoff team WITH him. So the thought of having to build without him isn't necessarily a terrible thing.. And secondly, for his age Kevin has a ton of wear and tear on his body. He's had injury issues in the past, so there is still some risk in committing to him long term. Given the choice I'd still do it, but it's not a perfect scenario.
I would not trade him during the season or at the trade deadline. Either do it now where we can get some nice assets in this draft, or play the year and see what happens. If he walks at the end of the year, if nothing else we gain some cap space. As SJ said it would also force him to take much less money which would be nice. But if he has indicated a desire to leave, I would maximize the return right now so we can move on.

Agreed, the time to move him is now.

Well said Cool. Thats pretty much how I feel. I am probably one of the biggest Kevin Love fans around but I also know the negatives/reality and you outlined them well in your post. I am sorta sick at the thought of trading him, but I think at this point getting a high draft pick where you know what spot it will be and maybe another decent asset and or cap relief may be as good as you are going to get. Depending on what return they get back for Love I think Pek may need to go too. He won't hold up through a rebuild thats obvious. They may need Kevin Martin on the team just so Rubio has someone to pass too.

Re: My Thoughts on Love
If we have a shot at Parker/Wiggins + assets, I think we have to move Love. I love watching him play as much or more than anybody, but there has to be a plan in place. It's make the move or play the situation out with Kevin, which could put this franchise back at least five years. I feel like Parker/Wiggins both have the ability to be superstar talents in this league, which we would need in return for Love. That in itself beats the CHI/GS offers.
Guess the only chance we have at either of those two, however, is if LAL or BOS has a top-two pick. Unlikely, but possible.

No matter what Love leaving could put this franchise back 5 years. Pek and Rubio are nice enough players, but Rubio could leave and we would be left with Pek and whatever else Flip can add in the draft or otherwise well that doesn't look good its tough even if Flip was a genius. If they decide to make a play to keep Love at all costs I won't blame them I really won't.
Re: My Thoughts on Love
My thoughts on Love are that if the losing was wearing on him, maybe he could have played some defense, or closed out some of those close games. He is clearly not a man of his word, or he wouldn't have made a decision already. It was nice of him to keep up the lie, while Flip signed on 30 mil in annual salaries last season to make a push for the PO's.
If I am Flip, I only trade him for a godfather offer. Anything less only continues the mediocrity of this team. Either we bottom out with picks for the future while dumping the longer salaried guys like Pek, or you entertain the fans next season and then start the rebuild with Love walking away for less money, less years, and less options.

Re: My Thoughts on Love
If Flip puts him on the market in time, there will be a rabid frenzy for him. That time is before the draft. Lottery teams will throw their pick out, forcing non lottery teams to offer up nice young assets, forcing lottery team to take another step up. The longer Flip waits, the more the price will drop. That said, I understand the now or never approach. I am hoping for now opposed to never.

Not my view at all. I think the franchise will be better off much sooner if we can pull off a good trade. Despite Love's Hall of Fame stats, he's a tough guy to build around. I'd rather build around Wiggins/Parker, Rubio and Deng. The only way I want to keep Love is if we somehow manage to get a top pick in the lottery draft.

oh please, Love was 4th in scoring 3 in rebounds, almost 5 assists a game. To put even a smidge of blame on him for not making the playoffs is stupid. Wolves wouldn't of scratched 20 wins this year without him

Re: My Thoughts on Love
If it is in fact true that Love wants out, no doubt you have to trade him before the season starts.
And if the pattern holds, this means the Wolves will get very little in return and whatever team Love lands on will win the championship within a couple years.
