Cavs roster sans Love is not THAT great

Post by alexftbl8181 [enjin:6648741] »

Irving-Waiters-Lebron-Thompson-Verajo

With Bennet/Wiggins and let's just give them Ray Allen I guess...

Minus Lebron, none of them are really known as good defenders ( Wiggins I know, but he's a rookie)

None are really known as 3 point shooters ( I think Waiters is pretty overrated)

They don't really have players to space the floor that Lebron likes.

I think the Pacers are jumping for joy today. If they can find a way to get Lance back, they could beat that team. People forget how good Wade was against them

Cavs have 4-5 more roster spots and Mike Miller wants to join up. I think some people are underestimating the effect of Lebron. He is the best player in the league and can make guys better. There is young talent the question for me beyond the talent level which is a legit question is coaching. Can Blatt with Lebron and a young team win in the playoffs? That's a tough one.

I agree Alex. I think Flip knows it too and that's why he's saying no to a Wiggins/Love trade for now until Cleveland adds to their offer.

Chicago must be offering a boat load and with the Bulls now trying to get Pau I'm thinking he might be a part of a Chicago offer too once he's allowed to be traded after a Lakers sign and trade to Chicago??

That team makes it to the eastern conference finals pretty easily IMO. And if u get there and have the best player in the league I like ur chances.
As a Wolves fan I can appreciate that kind of success seeings as even .500 eludes us.

eh I dunno, it took a while for the Heat in their first year to really gel, and that Bosh and Wade were better then anything the Cavs have now

Chicago, with or without Love, seems to be the team to be reckoned with in the East next year. They won 48 games without their franchise player, Derrick Rose. Just simply getting him back healthy could be a massive boost. Now if they land Pau on a very reasonable deal, they may not feel the need to go after Love and give up valuable depth. I think they would be primed for a title run.

Pau couldn't be offered up for a couple months. You have to wait a couple months after signing somewhere in FA. It was something like December or January 15th was the date last year. I also agree Cleveland isn't going to be the good around Lebron as is. Say they add Miller and Allen. You're just taking away playing time from Wiggins for 3 point specialists unless you cut Waiters' minutes. I would assume Thompson and Bennett will take all the 4 minutes, but if you give Lebron some time there, you are cutting the minutes of one of those young guys. I would think adding JJ, Bud or Martin to the deal and getting Love while signing Miller and Allen would instantly give them the shooters around Lebron to succeed. I don't think adding Love and having Kyrie makes them a contender immediately anyway. Love and Kyrie still have no playoff experience so I don't think they are going from no experience to champs in one year. That team is just built better around Lebron and could still use some tweaking (rim protection) to finish the team, but 3 all-stars with 2 in their prime and another even younger is a great place to start.

I don't see how that team beats Indiana, Chicago or Brooklyn if all their pieces come back. Clevand has 0 bigs that people are afraid of and the teams above either have the defense to handle two good offensive players with no help, or have huge mismatches that Cleveland has no chance beating ( Kyrie and Varejao can't guard D Will and Lopez). Getting the best player will help, but there is still only 1 other quality scorer around him and not a lot of 3 point shooting to make Lebron's drives as effective as they were in Miami.

I really dont put to much stock in the idea that a big three is necessary to win. I look at that Cavs lineup and see players that fill their roles properly. U got the scorers, hustle and rebound guys , and plus plus defenders. Most teams struggle to find that balance like the 90s Bulls,Kobes Lakers and this years Spurs. I see the Cavs being able to achieve that.
We'll have to see how the rest of the roster fills out , but its certainly headed in the right direction. The Cavs won 33 games last year with an injured Kyrie. Now they get Lebron and the top pick in the draft and u guys dont think theyll be that good?
