Non-Love trade

Post by khans2k5 [enjin:6608728] »

If we do move Love before the draft, would you do this deal?

MIN: Boozer's massive expiring, 2014 19th overall pick

CHI: Kevin Martin, JJ Barea, LRMAM or Bud

They get a backup PG to Rose who can create a shot (Augustin's deal is over July 1st) and a 18 PPG scorer to put next to Rose in the backcourt. Most important, they get to move Boozer's deal for pieces that help their team make a run in the playoffs while still having another 1st round pick.

We get a huge expiring deal that can either start or give us some type of scoring punch off the bench and a mid-late first that could be used to draft a backup to Ricky. We get some significant long-term cap relief from Martin and Bud/LRMAM for a rental and a first round pick. I certainly don't think Boozer is a good player, but his deal is big enough and they want him gone where I think we could dump some of our long-term commitments to take him off their hands. This is all assuming Love is traded of course as it doesn't make much sense to pay 2 PF's 30+ million dollars combined.

No thanks. I've brought up a Martin to CHI deal within the past few days, but in no way do I want to take on Boozer. If we do trade Love, I fully believe Budinger will be involved. SF logjam and he's the least valuable of the group right now. Barea and MaM are already expiring deals. The 19th pick in this draft is nice, but not enough to give up Martin and take back Boozer. That's my opinion.

I think I would rather just hold onto Martin. I don't think Chicago woudl be interested in this unless they liked Bud and he was included.

"Just filed to http://NBA.com : Kings put No. 8 on the trade block, wanting veteran instead of next rookie to develop. Link to come."

No. 8 looks attractive to me. Puts us in direct position to get one of the elite prospects in the draft.

1. Jabari Parker
2. Andrew Wiggins
3. Joel Embiid
4. Dante Exum
5. Julius Randle
6. Marcus Smart
7. Aaron Gordon
8. Nik Stauskas

*Note: I didn't forget about Noah Vonleh.

One of these players are certain to be there at that pick. 6-8 on that list have the biggest likelihood of being available, obviously. We could use any one of the three.

How do we get this pick, though? Martin by himself won't do it. Martin + 13 for 8? Pekovic for 8 and McLemore, moving Cousins to PF in their starting lineup?

Not sure, but it's intriguing to me.

I wonder if the Kings would do Rubio for 8th. They could right that wrong from a few years ago. I would love to have Smart on this team. He is going to be a bad a$$ in the NBA.

You want to get expiring contracts and get rid of guys like martin and Bud to get cap space and do what with it? Not going to sign a superstar thats for sure. Wolves just have to use it to overpay guys like Bud and Martin and start the cycle over again. Cap space for a team like the wolves is pointless

Notice that I called it cap relief and not cap space. Not every team goes right up to the luxury tax and most bottom dwellars aren't close. The point is to not have to pay Martin for an extra 2 years and LRMAM for an extra 1 when we wouldn't be trying to make the playoffs. You save the space for when someone earns it. We wouldn't be bringing in 5 million a year guys if we weren't trying to make the playoffs. Having cap space available is how you take advantage of teams looking to dump players and picks aka GS/Utah deal. That's how you get multiple first's in drafts.

So how has Utah been doing with that strategy so far?

They have a top 5 pick and haven't even received the picks yet for taking Jefferson and Biedrins off the Warriors hands. Hard to evaluate the trade when they haven't even received half the assets of the deal yet.
