Kahnnn!

Post by mjs34 »

Saw this on hoopshype -

Another former NBA general manager rumored to be the "face" of another group is David Kahn. He was the president of basketball operations for the Minnesota Timberwolves before being relieved of his duties last May. A call to Kahn wasn't returned. Kahn once attempted to bring the Montreal Expos to Portland before the Major League baseball team opted to relocate to Washington. This is in an article about new ownership for the bucks,

I pray he is successful because it will drive guys like Wojjfiejfiesjfijeif from Yahoo absolutely crazy.

All of their criticisms were valid, though. He took bad GM'ing to a whole new level. I don't hope he fails, but I hope no fan base ever has to deal with him making decisions.

So who is that Spanish kid that would never come to Minny and play??

Why wasn't Flip criticized for drafting another PG with the ninth pick when we already have Ricky???

You gotta be kidding. That was an already decided pick for the Jazz.

A tally of Kahn's moves that didn't pan out

-Hiring Rambis
-Drafting Flynn over Curry
-Trading Lawson for what turned out to be a year of Martell Webster
-Trading for and then overpaying Darko
-Drafting Wesley Johnson
-Trading a 1st round pick just to get rid of Wes Johnson
-Trading the rights to Motiejunas, Chandler Parsons, Norris Cole, and Nikola Mirotic for nothing as far as I can tell.
-Trading away Corey Brewer for Anthony Randolph
-Trading for Beasley
-Drafting Tanguy Ngombo
-Signing Brandon Roy
-Not offering Love the max
-Drafting Derrick Williams
-Trading the 18th pick (Terrence Jones) for Chase Budinger
-Overpaying Barea to come to a team with Rubio and Ridnour
-Signing Shved for 3 years $9mil with no idea if he would work out
-Re-signing Chris Johnson on his way out the door for no reason
-NOT OFFERING LOVE THE MAX!!!

That's the beauty of Kahn. So many bad moves that many of them get forgotten. How many people actually realize that we held the rights to Lawson, Parsons, Terrence Jones, Motiejunas, and Mirotic at different times before Kahn pissed them away?

He got Rubio. That was a good pick, but don't forget 4 of the top 9 picks in the 2009 draft have been All-stars. It's not exactly like Kahn struck gold with the 5th & 6th pick.

Sorry, I have a lot of disdain for David Kahn. Also, SJM, if you happen to be David Kahn I'm sorry if I offended you.

Hypocrisy at its best!

So Burke was already a decided pick, but that doesn't apply to Lawson, Terrrence Jones (and I think we know who was behind this trade), Montejunas, Cole, Mirotic.

You left out drafting 4 PG's in the same year. Another ridiculous fabrication.

Derrick Williams was the consensus number 2 pick! He tried to trade that pick, as well as the #4 the year before.

Beasley cost us 2 seconds.

That Cory Brewer trade really cost us!

Kahn has made plenty of bad moves, but nowhere near what is being credited to him. Kahn's single biggest mistake was putting too much faith in his bonehead coaches and their personnel choices.

It was Rick's right hand man Bayno that brought Roy into the loop, and Rick signed off. Chase is another guy that should be credited to the HOF'er.

Taylor has made it pretty clear that he was behind the Love contract, and he has stated that after Kahn was let go.

Flynn had a very good rookie season, and Curry had told the wolves he didn't want to be here, so as a GM in your first season, who do you draft? Most knew Ricky was an 85% chance of delaying for two years, and we needed a PG.

Parsons went 38th, so apparently it wasn't just Kahn that overlooked him. This is the perfect example of piling on. If Kahn was as bad as you think, you should be able to use his real mistakes rather than trying to invent some.

Seriously, are you David Kahn? It's not hypocrisy at all. It's about evaluating talent and making good deals, which Kahn was the worst of all-time at doing. If Gobert and Burke turn out to be way better than Shabazz and Dieng, then you can call it a bad deal by Flip. So far, that's not the case. Lawson, on the other hand, is way better than a year of Webster.

The fact that Daryl Morey got 2 starters and a rotation player out of Kahn says it all. That's an expert making deals with a GM without a clue. He must have been salivating.

The defense of all those moves is just ridiculous, David.

Why are you trying to change the points. The media called Kahn out for drafting 4 pg's, but never called Flip out for drafting Burke. Didn't Chase start this year? So that deal would be one starter for another, I think we both know that deal was at Adelman's request, but lets give the old man a pass.

Who is the second starter?

Morey will paying out 30 mil next season for Lin and Asik, so lets not go overboard on the "expert" thing.

I would love to see the Clipper or Laker fan base dealing with him making decisions!

Wasn't it the clipps that traded an unprotected first to Cleveland that turned into Irving? Took Olowokandi first overall. I would think the clipps would be perfectly comfortable.
