Grading Flip - This guy is not a fan

How many would rather have Trey Burke backing up Ricky than Deing and Shabazz? Knowing what I know now, I'd rather have the Greek freak than Shabazz.

Thanks 60winTim for another link. I wasn't wasting enough time on hoops boards, now I have another

I agree with his take on the free agents but his analysis on our draft is laughable in my opinion.

Wow, I don't know who Chris Schad is, but I really hope he has a day job other than writing about basketball. Although some of his points are valid, there are some astonishingly bad takes in this article.

1) He analyzes Flip's Shabazz pick by comparing Shabazz to Burke, and there is just so much wrong with this. First of all, he ignores the fact that Flip traded the 9th pick for the 14th and the 21st, so the actual comparison needs to be Burke vs. Muhammad plus Dieng. I believe you can make a strong case for either Dieng or Muhammad having more potential than Burke, but to argue that Burke would have been a better pick than the alternative of Deing and Muhammad is just folly.

2) As he advocates for Burke being the better choice at 9, he argues that Burke would have provided better scoring than JJ. Apparently he is ignoring Burke's horrible shooting this year, as he hit only 38% of his shots...even worse than the much maligned Barea.

3) His comment that Muhammad was not willing to play defense is just ignorant. Anyone who watched the Wolves closely this year might have a legitimate complaint about Muhammad's defensive technique, but there are no grounds for questioning his effort.

4) He also must not have researched Muhammad's shooting stats this year. His 46% shooting put him near the top of the list for rookie wings.

5) With respect to Dieng, describing his play as showing "flashes of promise" is a blatant understatement. He suggests that the Greek Freak would have been a better pick than Muhammad, and that is debatable...difficult to assess because he was given a chance while Shabazz was not. But the Freak showed "flashes of promise"...good some games, not so good others. Dieng showed a remarkable amount of consistent good play for a rookie. His impressive string of double doubles is an illustration of his consistency.

6) His conclusion is that if he keeps it up, Dieng could be a "decent back-up forward". WTF? Did he watch any T-wolves games this year?

7) He states that Martin didn't come close to being the scorer he was at Houston. Actually, Martin averaged 19 PPG this year, more than a point higher than his career average, and actually quite close to the average he had in Houston.

I'm going to stop because the Twins have the bases loaded, but overall this is a major fail as an article. It reminds me of one of those tests we would get in high school English where they would give you a flawed article and you would have to point our all the errors.

the Constant overrating of Burke is laughable. I thought he was vastly overrated before and during the draft. I think he is even more overrated now. The guy shot WORSE than Rubio and is what 2 years younger and admitted he didn't play defense this year? If you want to look back at what we know now this draft was trash if you have 2 picks and you were lucky enough to get a rotation player out of it then you were doing well. Flip got Dieng who has legit potential to be at least an average starting center. Looking back I don't really care what he did with the other pick getting one legit player makes him look like a genius.

Personally I think this writer has no clue what he is talking about. He is complaining about Martin shooting only 38.7% is he kidding? Ray Allen considered one of the best shooters of all time has a career 3 point percentage of 40 percent. Oh I am sure teams would hate to have a guy shooting Martin's percentages and can score 19ppg in his sleep on their team for about 7 million a year. He gave that signing a D? LOL good times. This guy makes Chad Ford's job look plenty safe. LOL
