Too much guaranteed money over too many years for an injury prone one way player. Period. So let's look at the glass as half full - he's a bull offensively, and he is our bull. Him staying gives Dieng time to get stronger, something he needs to do.

But no one is giving up assets for Pek's contract. Now we know why no other team made a run at him when they could have had him for free

That's my fear - Pek cannot be traded for anything worthwhile (if at all).

Although when you say "no other team made a run", what you really mean is "no other team signed him to an offer sheet". I am sure there were numerous teams that had serious conversations with both Pek's agent and the Wolves to determine if it was worthwhile extending him an offer and/or pursing a sign & trade. Discussions just never reached a point where a team felt it was in their interest to sign Pek to an offer sheet.

But all those discussions, along with the overall market for bigs, helped Flip and Pek's agent settle in on an amount. I just don't think Flip took a very tough stand. 12 mil and 5 years for Pek's abilities and track record was way out of line in my book. Of course, we don't know how the "injury protection" based on number of games played is written. It most likely is used to determine how much of the contract is guaranteed...

I am fine with keeping him. I want a coach that can get him to play with a little bit of a nasty streak to him. He doesn't need to avoid fouls now that we have Dieng who can back him up.

I disagree there will be teams interested in giving up something good for him. (for example see: Bogut for Ellis trade in 2012) Lots of teams have taken on injury prone players and I don't think saying Pek is a one-way player is fair. He plays decent team defense and his man D is pretty good. Its tough when he plays next to a guy that is a really poor match for him in Love. Having to keep Pek isn't he worst thing tough as you have said. I think they keep Pek around and hope they can limit his minutes with Dieng emerging and keep Pek healthy. I think its possible they could make the right move or 2 and shore up the wing position. Its nto likely, but its not impossible either. a healthy Bud (thats a question mark) improvement from Bazz and maybe even Hummel could go a ways towards that issue. Getting a nice player in the draft wouldn't hurt.

I completely disagree,I have seen far worse contracts moved and Pek has the advantage that he has VERY nice stats, there is at least one GM out there dumb enough to overlook his chronic nagging injury issues and make a run at him.
